"Artist Show" Director Marc Daniels. Writers Arthur Stander, Sherwood Schwartz. This is a great episode It made us LOL more than once here at the JDC! When Joan spends $7.49 for a pair of "his and hers" backscratchers, Brad chastises her for having too much time on her hands. He suggests she get involved in civic affairs, and so she recruits Senator Adams, coincidentally the man from whom Brad is trying to schmooze a Federal Judgeship appointment, into attending a luncheon at her ladies' club. Comic brilliance ensues as Joan accidentally lifts the Senator's toupee, and then tries to pass it off as the club mascot! Brad tries to make amends by inviting the Senator and his wife, an art aficionado, to dinner. Joan decides to take an art class, taught by the trรฉs snooty IMJ semi-regular, Fritz Feld, this time without his trademark moustache. There's another student there played by the wonderful Lee Patrick, a perfect nemesis to Joan in many IMJ episodes. They fight through and around the very beefy male model they are attempting to render on canvas. Of course the woman is Mrs. Adams, but never fear, all's well that always ends well in IMJ land! Miss Patrick is best remembered for her dotty Henrietta Topper on TV's "Topper" series, and she also appeared in the Joan Crawford "Mildred Pierce" and had a substantial role in the classic "The Maltese Falcon." Miss Patrick would've been a regular had Joan's 1958 Pilot "Joan of Arkansas" been sold. She played Joan's housekeeper. Look for a very effective re-working of the famous vaudeville routine "packing and unpacking" between Brad and Joan. Also features Geraldine Carr as Mabel.
