"Moosehead" Director Marc Daniels. Writers Arthur Stander, Frank Tarloff, Ben Starr. Brad gives Joan fifty dollars to buy a housewarming gift for a colleague. Joan uses twenty-five of it to buy a hat (very funny physical business with the hatbox and the COD delivery man) and at the suggestion of her neighbor, Betty, played by Kathleen Freeman (Lena Lamont's diction coach in "Singing in the Rain"), goes to an auction to snag a lamp for a good deal. Joan inadvertently buys a moosehead from an unrelenting "All Sales Final" auctioneer (Sheldon Leonard). Joan tries to unload said moosehead at a bogus auction of her own, Her assistant there is played by Bernard Gorcey, who also played Mr. Frisbee in the "Clothes Budget" episode and had a recurring role as "Joe the Bailiff" in a number of episodes. which goes hopelessly out of control. This episode features Jim Backus' real-life-wife Henny as a buyer at both auctions. (Note Henny Backus is featured as Harriet, a member of Joan's women's club in the episode entitled "Diet," also available for viewing on the JDC.)
