Here is "Gay Love" as introduced in the 1929 film "The Delightful Rogue," the second film produced by RKO. The clip is edited to highlight Lionel Hampton on drums, in what is likely the first onscreen depiction of a mixed-race band.

"Gay Love" was written by Oscar Levant and Sidney Clare, and is about Love Conquering All.. - Rita L aRoy's character Nydra is falling in love with the pirate Lastro played by Rod LaRoque. Bing Crosby had a big seller when he recorded this title for Columbia.

On a personal note, I have been looking for this film for almost 40 years now. This is all I have, in total an 8-minute clip saved by a collector from the film when it aired on AMC in 1998. I have requested repeatedly that TCM play the film, (they have it..), and I have haunted the trading groups and Ebay.. all to no avail. And online links to PD archives who supposedly have the film turn up empty. "The Delightful Rogue" is actually still controlled by RKO interests.
