Blonde bombshell actress Julie Ege, who starred in a string of British comedy films in the seventies, has died from cancer at the age of 64.

The Norwegian-born actress began her career as a model and three years later was crowned Miss Norway. She studied English at the University of Oslo and then came to Britain where she landed a role in the Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service in 1969.

She went on to play leading roles in top box office comedies such as Every Home Should Have One with Marty Feldman, Up Pompeii with Frankie Howerd and The Magnificent Seven Deadly Sins with Roy Hudd and Ronnie Barker.

Other films included the Ned Sherrin comedy Rentadick, Not Now Darling and the sex comedy Percy's Progress. In 1975 she starred in The Amorous Milkman.

She also appeared in Hammer Horror films but eventually retired from the screen to train as a care worker in Norway. In 1998, she completed a three-year course to become a registered nurse and, despite being diagnosed with both breast and lung cancer, continued to work in a hospital in Oslo.

Rest in Peace, Julie. Norway will never see another one like you.
