Lewis E. Lawes' hard-hitting, best-seller book "Twenty Thousand Years in Sing Sing" gets the Hollywood fluff treatment. Lewis E. Lawes was the Warden of Sing Sing prison for 2 decades. The title of the book comes from the fact that 1,000 inmates were serving an average sentence of 20 years each. The book was based on the Warden's personal experiences; Warner Bros. studio just bought the rights to the title, and created their own fictional story as follows.
Tom Connors is a criminal sentenced to Sing Sing. His girlfriend Fay is injured and Warden Long arrainges for Tom to visit her on his honor to return. While there he gets a fight with mobster Joe Finn and Fay shoots Finn. Tom jumps out the window and is blamed for the death. He gives himself up but it sentenced to the electric chair.
