Inspired by Robert Rodriguez's "Mariachi" trilogy, comes a short film that follows the events of "Once Upon a Time in Mexico". The Legendary Mariachi is propositioned by a mysterious woman to kill a man that he has never met, on the promise that he will find something he didn't think was still possible, a second chance at life.

A WORD FROM CHRIS

"The Legend of El" was strictly made for fun. I love the Mariachi films, "Desperado" being my favorite. Like most fan films, I try to find a way to somehow connect them with the existing mythology, so that if my movies were to ever become canon, there would be no continuity hiccups. This film is set in the present and follows the events of the last official installment. The Mariachi is basically an empty man and most likely, still occasionally working as a hired gun.

The short is essentially two parts. Part one- the story/legend of El. The storyteller is basically giving his pitch of how he will tell the myth of the Mariachi to others. It was meant to be a little funny and reminiscent of Steve Buscemi's scene in Desperado.

Part two is the actual divulging of the plot. The Mariachi is propositioned by Boss Lady who makes him a very interesting offer. This part of the film is where you actually get to see what El is really like, vs his fictional counterpart. We shot this half of the movie twice, because after watching it the first time, we realized there there was not enough EL in El. I'm happy to say, the 2nd time around, I think we got it.
