The Secret Garden is a novel written by Frances Hodgson Burnett around 1911. In 1949, MGM made a lovely film adaption, starring Margaret O'Brien as the protagonist, Mary Lennox, but it was the much acclaimed film adaption from 1993, which first caught my heart. Agnieszka Holland, the director, captures the childish spirit and the soul of the book so beautifully, illustrating the true wonders of a blossoming garden and of a flowering childhood and friendship.
This montage is a tribute to this breathtaking film from 1993. I've used stills from the picture, mainly of Mary Lennox (magnificently performed by Kate Maberly), and besides, pictures of gardens, flowers and animals. I even managed to find some pictures of the settings used in the film to illustrate the exterior and interior of Misselthwaite Manor, more precisely pictures of Allerton Castle and Fountains Hall.
Finally, I've used a picture in the end of Kate Maberly in Gulliver's Travels (TV miniseries) to illustrate an older Mary Lennox still living at the manor and near the garden, as it is implied in the end of the film.
