Wisdom comes in many forms, but we seldom take it. Especially when it comes in the guise of a heartbroken youth, sitting on a bench in Central Park. But his message is timeless You cannot appreciate life unless you stop and smell the roses.

A WORD FROM CHRIS

The concept for "Roses" derived from an idea I had about an old man learning a life lesson from a ghost. I always wanted the ghost to be a teenager, but originally instead of him being murdered, I had him as a victim of a car crash. I figured with the concept of stopping to smell the roses, the complete opposite of that would be a speedster with no time for anything. But when it came to actually film, the location and time frame actually forced me to change a few things, and for the better I think.

Having the teenager haunting the stop where he tried to protect his girlfriend, I think is much better than him wrecking his car. It makes him less selfish and his character more pure. He truly knows the value of life and would do anything to have it back. It also makes his message to the old man more powerful as well.

Production for this was a pain in the ass. We filmed for 2 hours in Central Park and sound quality was horrible. I had everything from moronic people walking directly into my shot (knowing well and good I was filming, they just didn't care) to dogs barking and garbage trucks revving their engines. It was just annoying as hell. Oh and of course let's not forget regular NYC traffic, low flying air planes and my favorite, a Renaissance band that started playing in Columbus Circle.

But in spite of it all, it was a great shoot. Chase Coleman, Rick Zahn and Erin Hiatt were all awesome and they each brought something incredibly believable to their respective parts.
