Q "What did you use for recording?"
A Spring has an implemented Frame-By-Frame recording system with which you can have frames recorded and converted to a codec that you have while recording. That is why it ends up so smoothly.
Problem is you record 2x/3x longer than on a normal screen recorder(depending on PC) and you cannot record sound. Also you shouldn't try using while playing a multiplayer game(Though I haven't tried with a standard codec).
AFAIK the keys to active video recording ingame is still - Ctrl+Shift+F10
