The Little Island (1958) was the first animated film by Richard Williams (The Thief and the Cobbler, Who Framed Roger Rabbit). Richard Williams wrote, produced, directed and animated the short film. Self-financed, it was a half-hour philosophical argument without words. It won the BAFTA award in 1959 for Best Animated Film. Tristram Cary wrote the music.

This film was never released on video and had been seen by very few people over the years. We restored it and transferred it to video unofficially on a non-profit basis using a print donated by collector KA, and funding from Patrick McCart and the members of the orangecow.org FFrevolution forum.

The film features three men, who each only believe in one thing, one in Good, one in Truth, and one in Beauty. Taking their beliefs to the extreme they become monsters, in this highly stylized and offbeat early work by a contemporary animation legend. Very simply made but surprisingly thoughtful and serious in its subject matter, and certainly open to interpretation.
