The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim is the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series, and is a direct sequel to The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion. The game was announced on December 11, 2010 at the Spike Video Game Awards with a release date of November 11, 2011 and takes place in the Nordic land of Skyrim, on the fictional continent of Tamriel. The story will revolve around dragons, who fear a person known as the "Dovahkiin".
Skyrim will utilise a new in-house engine, forgoing the Gamebryo engine used for the previous two installments in the series. The new engine will incorporate some existing technology used in other Bethesda games, such as Oblivion and Fallout 3. Executive producer Todd Howard has stated that the studio has invested in new talent to significantly improve the characters and animation over previous Bethesda games.
"It's exciting finally to announce the game," said Todd Howard, Game Director on Skyrim. "We've been working for many years on Skyrim and the technology behind it. A new Elder Scrolls game has been a long time coming, and we can't wait to show it off."
