The United States Secretary of State is about to meet with the Iranian Foreign Minister in the first high-level diplomatic talks between the two countries in thirty years. Each has an interpreter in tow on the American side, Michael, a young man of Iranian descent; on the Iranian side, Azar, a young woman with an Oxford pedigree. Almost immediately the two interpreters begin to alter what their bosses are saying in order to avoid derailing the negotiations. But soon, realizing just how little the diplomats are willing to budge and just how much they can get away with in their position, Michael and Azar begin making policy changes well beyond their authority. As tempers flare and misunderstandings grow, the interpreters must keep their spontaneous collusion hidden at all costs - or their good intentions could have disastrous consequences.
