Velha Gaiteira is a Portuguese tradicional music project which has on Beira Baixa (mountains area of the centre of Portugal) their main influence. It can be said that this project was born from the will of promoting the Portuguese Bagpipe and the traditional percussion of Beira Baixa. It is a Beira Baixa traditional character and nobody knows, exactly where or when it was born. Today, one only knows that someone that was called Velha Gaiteira, was a happy person, that learned, with the pleople that worked in the fields, how to get through life always seeing the bright side of things, singing and having fun with all the good and bad things that happen, so that it could be remembered. She liked bring joy, through her joy. The term can be applied to both old and young women. If you mix the Portuguese bagpipe,"Adufe", "Pifaro","Caixa"(small drum) and "Bombo"(Bass Drum), you will get Velha Gaiteira, with original themes and new versions of tradicional portuguese musics. Velha Gaiteira believes that bagpipes existed all along their country, so here we are to help to the divulgation of portuguese bagpipes.
