Ty Cobb

Ty Cobb, nicknamed "The Georgia Peach", was an American baseball outfielder. Cobb spent 22 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, the last six as the team's player-manager, and later played for the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1999, the Sporting News ranked Ty Cobb third on their list of "Baseball's 100 Greatest Players". He also served on the Western Front as a Captain in the United States Army during World War I, with fellow ball players Lieutenant George Sisler and Captain Christy Mathewson in the Chemical Warfare Service unit, under the command of Major Branch Rickey, the president of the St. Louis Cardinals.
