(1) Let There Be Light
Part One. Explores how aspects of modern science came from a desire to understand the nature of divine light โ the sun, the moon and the stars. Greek, Arab and Medieval scholars used light to study the environment and celestial patterns, and their observations heavily influenced thinkers from Descartes to Newton.
(2) The Light of Reason
Part Two. Explores the invention of new tools to manipulate light and the consequent battle of ideas. The key tool was the telescope, and the battleground was amongst theologians who were confronting the revelations of Galileo.
(3) The Stuff of Light
Part Three. Charts the invention of electric light, the competition that surrounded its development, and the extraordinary impact electric light had on industrial advance.
(4) The Universe and Everything
Part Four. Uncovers how the mystery of light has been used to entertain, enlighten and deceive. The origins of photography are explored along with artistic innovations from moving pictures to digital media โ all of which harness the relationship between light, the eye, and the mind.
