Skillfully directed, Fire Within follows the performers along the stressful path from auditions to the opening show. We can get a glimpse into the intimate lives of the performers, capturing the strength and vulnerability of people whose bodies are their art – and not everyone rises to the challenges they are confronted with. The way of making a show like Varekai is not always gentle or pretty ; if an act is not working – like as when Gareth and his acrobatic partner Ashley have trouble finding their balance for a piece called the Icarian Games – the act will simply be abandoned, and the entertainer fired.
Fire Within is a exceptional warts-and-all document of ingenuity and frustration. After each episode, you will anxiously jump to the next one to learn what happens next.
