Here is a list I put together specifically containing zombie flicks. Perhaps you can find a few from there.

Zombies!

And by the way, Romero's films aren't recent, unless you're talking about his latest, Diary of the Dead (2007), or even Land of the Dead (2005). ;)

That's the second Max Brooks book, isn't it? I haven't read it yet, although I've read the Zombie Survival Guide and absolutely loved it.

I like the idea of zombies, however I don't think that many good movies have been made about 'em.
The few that I like are:

4. I Am Legend - Not a bad flick, over-all. For what it was, I really enjoyed it. Though, I agree with the popular complaint that the creatures appeared too "animated". I think a bit more effort into making 'em seem more realistically would've helped this
movie ( & yeah, I'm aware that many consider these to be vampires,
but to me, they seemed more like zombies i.e. 28 Days Later).

3. Planet Terror - While the shlock that comes with most zombie flicks usually puts me off, for this movie, I found alot fun & enjoyable.

2. 28 Days Later - Finally, some scaring looking zombies. This movie probably would've made it to my number one spot, if only it's second half hadn't veered away from the zombies so much & into the whole "the military being the enemy" angle.

1. Night Of The Living Dead - This was almost the "Blair Witch Project" of it's time. It has the a very documentary feel to it. And to my mind, it was the first time I had ever seen the idea of zombies as truly scary.

See the movie Frontier(s)... the french seem to be doing good with the past few movies made, especially Alexandre Aja films. i just saw mirrors and loved it, plus i was such a fan of high tension i got it tattooed on me from wrist to elbow. He remakes the hills have eyes and it might be one of the few that actually works in my eyes; just as raw with more intensity in both victims and cannibalistic murderers.

Shaun of the dead

resident evil movies sucked, they shouldve just stuck with the same story like the games, where the hell is jill, and leon?

Sorry to say Mighty Celestial but "I Am Legend" isn't a zombie movie it's a virus movie but not a zombie movie.
Lesley 15 years, 6 months ago at Nov 2 3:15 -
"I Am Legend" is neither a zombie movie nor a virus movie yet. i really don't know what's spirit it tends to express. it really sucks.
Derron 15 years, 6 months ago at Nov 2 3:23 -
-_- I Am Legend is a virus movie everyone became whatever those were through a virus created by man(sounds familiar?) therefor it's a virus movie.
Also how can you hate I Am Legend it's is one of the best movies.
Lesley 15 years, 6 months ago at Nov 2 3:37 -
hehe i just compare it to Will's other movies. i like him, though i don't like this one this time.

just like 28 days later and 28 weeks later, right? aw crap i don't know, they should put jackie chan in a zombie movie, like the other movie i've seen, he was fighting a vampire instead, getting eatin buy zombies is probably the worst death, like being burned alive.
Lesley 15 years, 6 months ago at Nov 4 2:57 -
lol~im afraid jackie won't:)

Once again, I direct you to my Zombies! list. There are a variety of zombie films contained therein, including many lesser known ones.

Nimimerkillinen also posted a link (further up the thread) for a website that has even more titles.

Jessica 15 years, 6 months ago at Nov 9 10:12 -
it's called They Came Back (in English). In French, I think it was Les Revenants.

and, by the way, no offense, but lame joke...

Earlier this year I saw [REC]
and I was also finally able to catch up with Shaun Of The Dead.
While neither one were able to replace my number one fave zom flick,
they did make it into my top 5.

Just to help you narrow down 350125g0's list, I'll recommend Zombie (IMO, the eye-gouging scene is among the best ever), the original Dawn of the Dead, Dead Alive (the lawnmower scene is EPIC), Cemetary Man (I kick ass for the lord!), 28 Days Later, Evil Dead 2 (I prefer it over the first one), Army of Darkness, Planet Terror, Versus, and Shaun of the Dead.

I don't recall From Beyond really being a zombie movie, but it's worth watching, as is Dagon, which is by the same director. You'll hear IA! IA! CTHULHU F'THAGN! echoing in your brain for at least a couple of days.

Not meaning to take a bit of steam from your recommendations, Insektmute, but "I kick ass for the Lord!" is actually a quote from Dead Alive. One of my favourite scenes from the film, in fact. ;p

Was it? Fuck! I need to rewatch both of them. I picked up Cemetary Man awhile ago, but it's been a few months, and even longer since I last watched Dead Alive.

I've got two years until I'm 30, but my memory is already slipping away! *cry*

My favourite quote from Dead Alive:

"Fernando! Your mother ate my dog!"
"Not all of it..."

:D

Seriously. One of the most classic lines ever.

The scene towards the end is pretty unforgettable, too. I don't want to spoil anything for people, but "vagina beast" seems fitting.
oliper 15 years, 3 months ago at Jan 14 11:10 -
28 days/weeks (Weeks is the better of the two)
Shaun of the Dead (for the lulz)

Enjoy

Problem with horror films is the date really quickly unless it's espically exceptional. Hard to think off the top of my head... Might come back to this one
mightyhobbes 15 years, 3 months ago at Jan 30 2:05 -
don't zombie movies usually start with a virus anyway? so if i am legend isn't a zombie movie, neither are the 28 days later and the resident evils.. I can't remember dawn of the dead..
Deleted user
Deleted 15 years, 3 months ago at Jan 30 3:50 -
Not all zombie movies start with a virus. Those who only see the larger grossing, more popular films would probably think so, though. ;)

Cool new zombie flick coming from Norway: Dรธd snรธ (Dead Snow)

Vacationing skiers awaken an horrible WWII experiment - Nazi zombies!

(okay, it's been done before,at least twice, Shock Waves and Lake of the Living Dead, but never in Norway.)

Thanks for the lo-down, Coyote. Hadn't heard of it.

Another Nazi zombie film: Horrors of War. Be forewarned, though, it's ridiculously horrible.
