This movie, at the least, exceeded all my expectations! I thought that BATMAN BEGINS was good enough at the time that it was released. So much so that I felt that it made any previous Batman movies look like...dare I say it?...a joke (in my humble opinion of course). When I saw how it ended, I had hoped to see Christopher Nolan's version of the Joker even after hearing who he picked to play the part (I've only seen Heath Ledger in 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU and A KNIGHT'S TALE) but I had no idea how that was going to turn out! All I knew was that Mr. Nolan did a fantastic job with his first Batman movie and I had high hopes that he would continue to do so in the next. When I first heard the title of the next movie I was psyched because it was the title of my favorite graphic novel series by writer/artist Frank Miller. Then I heard that a good portion of the movie was going to be filmed in Chicago (I live in its suburbs) so all I heard all last summer were constant news reports of where they were filming (especially during the traffic reports). Mayor Daley gave the whole production crew and cast the keys to the city and everything. So, by the time the previews came out, I was watering at the mouth like Homer Simpson in front of his favorite donut (sorry, that was too much info). Ordinarily I don't get this crazy when it comes to sequels (I did for LOTR:THE RETURN OF THE KING but that was because the first two movies were great) but I had a really good feeling about this one especially when more previews were shown. But even then, I had NO idea what I was asking for!! The night I went to see it....well let's just say I'm STILL in shock! To say it was more than I asked for is an understatement.
My thoughts on the potential sequel: I've been hearing in the grapevine that the Riddler is a possibility and ordinarily I would bulk at that but if anyone can make Riddler an interesting character, that would be Nolan. Having seen how well he can weave a story I can imagine something very mind-boggling. I also wouldn't mind seeing his version of Killer Croc or maybe even Cat-Woman (boy, if anyone needs to be revamped, it's her!). I will never shed a tear though if I never see Robin make it into the series. Batman is cool enough all by himself (and that goes the same for Batgirl and any other Bat-sidekick thank you very much). Now Superman meeting Batman in the series with all the animosity, now THAT would be interesting (all my fellow comic book geeks know what I'm talking about).

What ARE my thoughts? Isn't this a breach of privacy??
David Goyer said that they didn't wanna bother re-imagining villains that have been portrayed before (Catwoman, Penguin etc.) so I don't know how they fits in with the Riddler being OK to slap in?? However, I don't know where else they could turn for a decent villain now.
I have read aswell that if he was in, the Riddler would be portrayed as a Cyber-Terrorist to fit in with the real world scheme. As he is a tech-freak anyway aswell as ultra intelligent. Speaking to a colleague earlier, Depp is being hinted at the role (no doubt there will be a wank fest now).

well what i was hearing that if a next one would be released joker would escape from arkham and team with the riddler so if that happenes then i guess it would be interesting especially if Depp is cast

Heath Ledger is dead though. You reckon they will replace him like they did Rachel Dawes? The Joker is an epic character and people will notice the difference!

Poison Ivy could have a relevant storyline as some sort of bad arse eco-terrorist. They're everywhere these days! I think it definitely needs two villains though. He's had his showdown with The Joker and it was epic, no other battle could come close for Batman, his other villains don't have the malice in them to rival it. I'd be happy if they didn't make a sequel in fact, but that's not going to happen.

well no concerning the fact heath died i hear if the joker dose escape there going to digially add him inso when there making it someone dresses in green will do everything he will but they will sketch it in the green

Glad to hear that Goyer has no intention of using villains that have been featured in the franchise because I'm all for seeing some new faces on the big screen. After all, Nolan did a great job with Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow and Valcone. I'm just hoping that Nolan will be willing to do the third because you know that Warner Bros. won't settle for just two successful Batman movies! Now if Depp was picked as the Riddler....that WOULD be interesting. Hmmmm.

i agree renshai i wonder though how it would effect the whole plot of having a cyber riddler

I agree with Grand Assault. I'd said much the same after seeing Dark Knight. It would be great to see a new take on Poison Ivy, considering Uma's version was sold so far short in the last movie version.
I'd love to see a serious take on her as an eco-terrorist, with her real-life self going after Bruce. It's been done before, but after the events of the Dark Knight, it would work especially well.

Id prefer no sequel. I cant imagine they will top this film, but if they do i think we'd all be mentally ruined for life.
I had a look through a list of batman villains and none really compare to the Joker so its difficult, they couldn't write a progressive story without having the Joker near the start, but it would have been superb to have ended with the Joker instead of having him second.

It's a shame they've made Catwoman such a vapid character with the previous movies. What potential! I'd love to see what Nolan could do for her, but I wonder if it's even possible to rectify the damage already done with such a great villain.

Catwoman could fit in as a potential love interest for Batman, now that he is sans steady girlfriend, but she's not really a character I'd like to see any time soon. The problem is, Ra's al Ghul and The Joker are two antagonists who are driven by an urge to see humanity (or at least Gotham) collapse and destroy itself. All of Batman's other villains aren't as anti-humanitarian, so I can't see there being such an intense and sustained threat. His other villains seem to pursue their own interests, which aren't as dramatic or devastating.

I see your point. Perhaps you're right.

I thought that it was a great movie. Personally, I think Heath Ledger did a great job but my favorite is Christian Bale.

I don't know, GA. Poison Ivy would love to see humanity destroyed and plants take their place... That could be an excellent follow-up, really. But really, it might also be nice to see something different, now that we've seen the "tear down humanity" storyline twice, too.
There are any number of ways they can go with a sequel, and so long as they keep the same creative team, they really could have another great movie on their hands. Batman is such a rich world. I'd love to see them take advantage of it well.

YEEESSSS! Knightfall would make an awesome title for the next movie! I also agree with Elfflame in that they can't go wrong on the next movie if the same creative team stuck together. After all, they've done a great job with the current Batman franchise so why not see what they can do for Poison Ivy or even Catwoman. Riddler could even turn out pretty cool if they do him right (which is saying a lot coming from me 'cause I'm not usually a Riddler fan).
Oh, and by the way Enko, to answer your question I'm not sure exactly how a cyber Riddler would effect the plot (if I'm understanding your question correctly) all I know is that if Christopher Nolan and the current production crew stick around for Batman 3 a.k.a. Knightfall (that's such a cool title) there's all kinds of direction that they can take the plot.

Gotham needs a reason for Batman now.
Batman will always be there to help the innocent and battle the corrupt so there needs to be a reason why he can't be there. The Knightfall arc provides a reason why he can't possibly! help the city. Obv, you'd have to tweak it so that Azrael didn't take up the mantle either. Plus, it'll give Bane the re-imagining he deserves.

Oh, come on! Even a second's thought should reveal that to be the very obvious nonsense that it is.
I really liked The Dark Knight, and Heath Ledger's interpretation of the Joker in particular. Though Dent/Two-Face was a revelation also. It's a shame he died, actually, though I don't suppose a man with half his face missing could go long without getting dying of gangrene, or summat, anyway. Christian Bale, though... he's a fine actor, but didn'treally have much to do - and his husky 'I'm in Batman mode!' voice was irritating. He even used it when talking to people who knew who he really was, for some reason, too!

I thought it was left quite ambiguous at the end in regards to Two-Face but I guess everyone takes it differently.

Well, he was lying there, having fallen a fair distance, and, as I recall (perhaps incorrectly), his life signs were checked and nothing found, so...
...But, you never know. Mind you, I wouldn't be too disappointed if he *is* dead. They went into his mythology quite well in The Dark Knight, and his potential was realised.

I don't think his life signs were checked. Batman did move his face to the 'right' side to signify that they still need their White Knight to be a White Knight. He fell and they just didn't mention the fact he was dead so to me that felt as though he could be somewhere...
Although I enjoy a bit of Depp. I don't wanna see him in another blockbuster! Stick to something weird, you freak! He had his chance when Burton was in command!
