What was your Oscar ballot like?

AFIoscar 12 years, 3 months ago at Feb 27 8:11 -
I got 19/24 categories correct. Here were my predictions:

BEST PICTURE: The Artist
BEST DIRECTOR: Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist)
BEST ACTOR: Jean Dujardin (The Artist)
BEST ACTRESS: Viola Davis (The Help)

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE: Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory
BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT SUBJECT: Saving Face
BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM: The Fantastic Flying Books of..
BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT FILM: The Shore

I am happy that Streep won the award, but she cost me some points in some prediction games lol. I really wished Hugo made BP and swept every category except for Visual Effects and Sound Editing..that should have gone to Rise of the Planets and War Horse (because it's obvious). The Artist, in my humble opinion, should be second best to Hugo. I feel that Best Actor should have been awarded to Demian Bichir. He was so natural to his character that it became unbelievably real for me and I could also relate to him in many ways. I never heard of him before until I saw A Better Life. I will definitely be watching him in future movies. I also feel that Chico & Rita was better than Rango. It was like watching a real movie, but in animation. I also loved the music and the ambiance of the film and I really loved the graphics.

I also felt The Oscars were better this year compared to last year. I really believe Billy Crystal should be a permanent host for the Oscars. I was definitely entertained.

Ok, those are my 2 cents in. What are yours?

I liked this year's edition, although most of the nominees weren't that interesting (and so many of them were still unavailable to me). Fortunately, I managed to watch The Artist and Hugo the week just before the ballot and Im happy I did it, since those were the main movies of the event.

I didn't make any predictions this year, as I said, the nominees weren't very interesting and I was very unfamiliar with many of them. Nonetheless, some great artists got justice and won their prizes (I'm especially happy for the categories The Artist won, though I don't think it was a good choice to win best picture).

I'm still disappointed in the lack of more nominations than a mere one for the Driver, a movie that excelled in so many departments. It's crazy.

In the end, between all the nominees, I think Hugo and The Artist were the rightful winners.

I was pretty happy with the results. No predictions here, I hadn't seen most of the films. I'm glad the Artist won best film, it's refreshing to have a movie that doesn't quite fit with the mainstream here get great recognition.

I thought special effects should have gone to Transformers, while it was a lame movie it looked effing brilliant, and Hugo's special effects were great but not as impressive.

Also wish Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy had picked up an award to let it have the "Academy Award Winner" title, it would be great if it got more recognition. Loved the score, and Gary Oldman did great as usual. But those who did win for actors and score were just as deserving in my opinion.

I thought special effects should've gone to the Planet of the Apes, Transformers relied heavily on special effects to make fantastic machines, Planet of the Apes managed to "create" real apes. It was so well done. On the other technical categories, Hugo was the rightful winner I thyink

I was pulling for Hugo with The Artist as second. I was really upset the girl from The Artist didn't get best supporting actress. I was really happy with best adapted screenwriting as Jim Rash (The Dean on Community) won an Oscar and made headlines for mocking Angelina Jolie.

The award ceremony was pretty bad though and Chris Rock's comments angered me.

Thanks for all the replies...very nice opinions and totally understandable.

SnappySneezer, what was up with Angelina? Do you think she is on drugs and that's why she is losing weight? Her behavior was really odd that night or maybe she was just seeking attention. Who knows, but I definitely laughed at the mockery. I saw a picture that was photoshopped of her with two legs protruding out of her dress. Geeze, it was ridic! lol

The best highlight of the night had to be Cirque du Soleil. That was so amazing and I'm jealous :p I still have to say the Academy Awards was way better than the one previous. Still needs improvement..maybe they will nail it next time.

Ok, time to watch some films tonight.

Goodnight and happy watching!
