The World Ends Tomorrow Folks! - Large Hadron Collider

Surprised no one has mentioned this on here, but the world could end tomorrow guys and gals, sucked through a black hole, destroyed by a cataclysmic explosion, or even over run by time travelers from an evil future!

They are just some of the theories I've read about over t'internet since last year. At one point the Russians were saying "We expect to be able to Time travel in the next few years" Now people are going to the EU Courts to try and prevent this machine (which is being turned on at a higher than ever level tomorrow) from being run.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Collider

More info there, very interesting stuff! They are actually using it to try and create the exact circumstances of the big bang, to try and find what is dubbed "The God Molecule" which is basically the molecule which spawned all of creation and existence. They wont be able to see it there, they will just get streams and streams of data to look through over the next few years which will hopefully reveal some insight into its existance.

As I say at the beginning, there are however scientists who think not only will it create a tiny big bang, it could rip holes in existence, time and space. Best case scenario we have a hole in time which future humans can travel back through. The logic being time travel is only possible if there is a hole in time, and since there are none so far, no time travel has been possible, but once we have a hole in time that would become the furthest point anyone can travel back to. (Meaning no back travel for us, sucks eh?!)
Worst case scenario a black hole is created which sucks all the universe through it, or again as i said, a massive explosion. The only plus there is its under France, so the French go first!

Cool eh?

I found some slightly related information today. Not related to "the end of the world", per say, but just as interesting.

Take a look.

If they do manage a mini black hole, they wouldn't be able to sustain it for long. Still cool beans.

dude it's gonna rock I've been attempting to fathom what it would be like just a few seconds after the bigbang.

Ummm, I wouldn't want to see the big bang considering right from the name big bang means. KABOOM! And we are all dead I wouldn't want that. And if they make a small big bang there goes all of the eastern side of the world. But a Black Hole would suck ass cause that's the last way I want to die cause I bet it is slow and painful, well considering your atoms in your body being rip to shreds then like ripping off all your limbs and the rest of your body till it becomes nothing but a spec about the size of .0005 half of a thousandth.

Other than what I explained it's awesome!

Now what if they did create time travel without the big bang thing and black hole how would it be. What other possibilites are there for when they create it, if there are any other than one that would kill us all.

Here's more on your Large Hadron Collider, with Stephen Hawking placing a bet that it will not work.

Personally, I know next to nothing about particles and matter, but it seems an interesting experiment for what it's worth.

I think that there are things that still havent been totally decoded...
For example: The Antikythera mechanism.
If scientists cannot figure something out that was created 1000s of years ago, how can the manage time travel?

Nice.

The particle collisions that the Large Hadron Collider produces are no different from those that constantly occur around the earth's atmosphere. There's really no conceivable threat; it's just the doomsayers doing their doomsaying.

the first test was done and nothing happened. Big surprise there. Of course, they won't be doing any serious experiments with it for about another year.

i heard they did both the first and the second and there going
to do the third one in a couple of months.
Heracles 16 years, 8 months ago at Sep 11 11:17 -
Firstly, I can't believe how you've murdered the point of the experiment and secondly the first four weeks are used to speed up the particles. The particles will not collide until then.

Doesn't matter because its al over hyped anyway.

We did a whole thing about this in science. We saw pictures of the Particle Excellerator from a National Geographic magazine. Its actually quite interesting.
The world wouldn't have ended because I didn't have that sense of impending doom, haha.

Hehehe,I was trying to hype it up myself for a laugh really, doom mongering thats all! :o)

Sounds more interesting than putting they are hoping to spot the boson higgs, which no one would know what it was without reading about it.

I have been well interested in this machine though, last year the Russians were predicting they could utilize this machine for time travel purposes, others are saying we can use it to discover new sources of energy, there are loads of people saying that this n that can be done with the machine really. You're going to know a lot more than me about it no doubt about it, but I like what I'm reading so far, science today is amazing!! Just wonder what would happen if it fell into the wrong hands?!
Heracles 16 years, 8 months ago at Sep 12 15:01 -
STOP MENTIONING TIME TRAVEL!!! Every time you do it make my ears pop with anger!

The anti-matter or Boson Higgs that they are trying to create is going to be used to cure cancer, prevent global warming and generally advance technology beyond what we have seen. They say that if the Boson Higgs does not exist then they will not find it. However Hawkings is saying that he doesn't expect it to work, not that the Boson Higgs does not exist but that their experiment will fail.

It might all be an anti-climax yet.

I was so hoping that the world would end. But gladly the test back then was just a beginning. They will increase the power and if we are lucky, there'll be some black holes for all of us.

Your very weird.

I think that should try to find a way to do this without making blackholes

lol
time travel????
as if....
Kari 16 years, 7 months ago at Sep 18 2:58 -
(dippy girl is above me)
well maybe they can maybe they cant you dont kno
BH72 16 years, 7 months ago at Sep 18 4:58 -
Sounds like maybe the Russians have been exposed to a few too many strange and unusual particles in these experiments.

Sounds like an Outer Limits episode.

Hmm,I think it's kinda dumb with all this Large Hadron Collider stuff, do we really need this? Or can we leave the world alone 'till it's last days?

Deleted 16 years, 6 months ago at Oct 27 20:47 -
Yeah we need it, if it leads to enormous scientific advancement for the good of humanity then anything is worth while right? Obviously the most public experiments from this don't sound too worth while when you are reading the paper about them, but they havnt built a machine this big, expensive and awesome just to dismantle it in a few years time.
Devious Phenomenon 16 years, 6 months ago at Oct 27 21:07 -
Dina, if there is time, it all is connected, but there has to be a way to bend it around, it might not be anything we'll ever see, but I'm willing to bet money that time travel is in fact possible, it may not be as logical as bending a rubber tube to make a circle, or sticking two holes in two places, as RB sort of said, but I'd bet on it
think about gravity, electricity, all of that stuff, nobody thought we'd control it,

Anbu, in a way I agree with you, because this will make it so humans overpopulate even more, because living standards and all that crap would get better, and we'd end up creating the apocalypse ourselves by overusing resources, but if you had cancer, or a loved one had cancer, and this thing could possibly help, wouldn't you want that?
Besides, if this stuff fails in later experiments, then the world blows up and the Apocalypse was caused by Science rather then Human Instinct :P
That's kind of getting a question bubbling up in my mind, but I'll wait till I have an answer to how I feel about it before I make a thread...
ANBU Sasaki 16 years, 6 months ago at Oct 28 14:27 -
The thing is: I don't want a screwed scientific artificial apocalypse :) Oh well...

QUOTE but if you had cancer, or a loved one had cancer, and this thing could possibly help, wouldn't you want that?

In what way would it possibly help? It's not a healing machine, it's rather a 60:40 killing machine.
