Why do you add someone?

I was gonna start this thread the other week as a nag because I get so many requests from people that A: I don't like or B: I don't even know. I think since the beginning of the year, since the naroot fiasco, I've had about 20 friend requests from the above types of people.

It baffles me. Why would you add someone that you haven't even had a conversation with? Or why would you add someone that has verbally assaulted you in a malicious way?

The whole point of adding someone as a friend on Listal is so you can see their ratings for items more conveninently. I see people with 80+ friends (all anime pics) who couldn't possibly care that much about all those peoples opinions on Media Items! Its a mockery of the system.

So I put it to you. Why do YOU add someone on Listal?

Either I respect the person and/or am geuninely interested in their ratings. Plus I can access their reviews quicker.

man, since i became mod, the stream of 'add me as a friend' from the 'other' side is non-stop. Almost like they want the mod on their friends list so they feel special.

honestly, i ONLY add people I share views with and they contribute lots of ratings. also personal friends/family are on my list.

I also delete people off the list from time to time, if they are inactive for many months. but deleting/re-ordering the friends list is a big pain (very very buggy)

Quite simply I either know them or like their style. Whether it be a good review, a custom list or a wit that wont quit. Very picky about my friends though I have to say.

Well, just cleaned up my friend list... cause... TA, Pre, Gem, you're right... having unknown people in your friendslist is useless... sorry.
Well, pre, to your comment, I personally don't care and don't feel special at all, you're a mod and I do not envy you.
As for TA, man... I had millions of conversations of you ^-^

I bet you've had it bad Prelude. If friend requests were bullets, you'd be like an ED-209 victim! I also think that after so many declines, you should no longer be able to add that person until they add you.

Thats my Robocop reference for the day. I haven't declined your request Sasaki.

I begun by adding the people I knew in real life, they're ratings are the ones I am most interested in on the site. I am friends with a few people with lots of rated items and others with close similarities to my tastes too.

I think I'm more successful of being unadded by people at the moment though!

Uh, TA, that means you didn't accept it either, did you? :)

It is interesting to see that there is a benefit to being added as a friend to another member. Other web sites have this feature and it seems to do nothing but boost one's ego.

I haven't really taken the time to comb through and read any reviews and ratings as of yet, so I haven't seen the advantages of having "friends".

I add people if we've had similar views, I've liked what I've read or just if I know that they are active.

I'll remove people if I find anytime I read something by them there's no interest on my part or it irks me the wrong way... Or, as someone else mentioned, if they have been inactive for too long.

I definitely won't add anyone with absolutely no colelction, or anyone that is very obviously underage.

I add people that I either know personally or people that I agree with in reviews and forum posts.
ANBU Sasaki 17 years ago at Apr 4 20:00 -
The main source of "friend list" is reviews, eh?

Personally I think that if someone wants to be added, so be it, what harm could it bring? I for one am not a close minded individual, It would be an honor to have people knocking on the door. Perhaps people should open their hearts, doors and let people in...

If you do that then before you know it you're swamped. What do your real friends have if you add everyone and anyone? Its not a matter of closed hearts, its a matter of sense.

On Item Pages you can only see your top 8 friends ratings on that specific item conveninently. Otherwise you have to refresh or come back to the page to generate the rest of their scores.

Atm, that is the only advantage of adding someone as a friend. Otherwise you are just clogging it all up with random people.

Well, it's either one) people I thought were pretty chill on Listal or two) friends I forced into getting Listal accounts.

I used to accept all friends requests a while ago but then I realized that wasn't helping, since those people didn't do anything but post crap in the groups, so I ended up getting rid of those people.

I ad someone based on a few guidelines:
1) They use correct grammar and punctuation
2) They don't obsessively talk about Naruto, or any anime for that matter
3) They regularly contribute to the site
4) We click

Nowadays, this is mine:
We click

...or I do.

I'll also accept friend requests without foreknowledge of who exactly I'm accepting a request from, so long as their profile doesn't make me think they're spam material and friend-everyone inclined. From there I'll delete based on inactivity or lack of 'click'. I actually have a non-forum posting listal friend that sent me a request which I accepted and haven't felt inclined to delete since (at least, not a second time).

I usually add people who share the same interests as me or whose reviews I liked so can I continue keeping up with them.

it depends on the percentage and if they like the stuff I do or not and I don't have a mod on my friends list or tom on my friends list to feel special merely because we sorta share views.
