I just wanted to know if we could and I don't know how or we aren't able to for a certain reason.

We don't want another reason for people to think this place is a MySpace Website.

Worst Suggegstion Ever.

Oh. Myspace sucks.

It wasn't a suggestion I was finding something out. Just to see if we could out music on it. I guess thats not wat Listal Feedback is for.

One of the worst things about MySpace is when you click on someones profile and you have to put up with what they think is 'music.'

The Artist Pages should have a 'Taster' button though.

This is Prelude, aka Mod God, and I approve this message. ;)

ok, follow up question. why ask why can't we do the same on listal? ;) I mean, the horrible backgrounds some us on their profile pages make me go blind, but if the theme of Naruto would play thru my speakers as well, i'd go mental. lol

Cause I actually would put music on my profile. Not like everyone else putting rap which isnt music.
Devious Phenomenon 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 26 23:28 -
Yes, I have to agree with Prelude on that,

maybe if there were a way to put in a MP3 player at the bottom, where it has a list of like 5 songs and you can choose any of them or you can turn it off alltogether

But, Even then, that is WAY too much work for Tom, I think he should stick with improving the more... useful parts of the site

Well I wouldn't put music on my profile.

Conundrum.

well, i can see that we post pictures and video, we should also upload music, but i think for definitely NO auto-play on viewing profile page. But legal implications would be bad, with people putting full MP3 songs online. thats never a good thing.

edit... man this post made no sense to even myself. lol

just ignore me, i'm tired

Now I realize I actually don't want music with all the kids putting crappy pretend music. So I change my mind I don't want music here.

I heard that Prelude can delete threads. Can you delete this one Prelude it is done and has served its purpose

no point in deleting this thread. it is a valid suggestion, and maybe others can comment.

Ok. I really don't care if you do delete it or not. I'm just done with it. It has served its purpose to me.

Please no music playing on profiles. It's lame and if you really wanted others to hear what you listen to try recommending something or writing a review.
Phil 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 27 1:01 -
Music on the site'll probably be a no go simply because of licensing - pretty expensive to sort out. It's probably not a particularly bad thing anyway (although I can see the use of attaching clips to albums).

Oh, f**k no!

Thank you... that is all.
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 27 2:16 -
Maybe we could just have a playlist thing, that does not auto-play. Kinda like purevolume.

for the love of [putyourillusionaryaomnipotentbeinghere], no! i think the profiles should be absolutely basic in the terms of "features". i even think background pictures, videos etc. are way too much and are surely a reason why all those people even facebook and myspace doesn't want flock to listal.

if anyone wants to go paris hilton s/he should go and expose her/his little life elsewhere. this is a freaking media collection site (or at least i hope it still is, tom, please?!), not a dating agency, emo haven or anime arena...

@prelude: don't bring up legal issues. do you want to know how much of all the ulpoaded videos and pictures (of course for all the items too) violate copyright? happy deleting in the future pal ;).

I have LastFM for my Music Profile & Tastes. Nuff said.

It's a pretty big imposition to hear a song every time you open someone's profile. You can upload music videos to your videos, and maybe in the future song samplers may be added to item pages.
Phil 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 27 18:59 -
Bael - Actually, most of the item images are probably actually ok, on the basis of fair use (see Wikipedia's use of similar things), promotional shots, a few screenshots, covers and suchlike. The videos generally aren't as likely to be unless they're trailers or other specifically promotional material released by the studios/tv stations.

I'm certainly with you on the profile pages though. Last FM or "old" Facebook style (pre-applications!) clean, tidy pages. A few options for re-ordering sections, but basically the same feel to each page.
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 27 19:40 -
I suppose it's for the best to not have music. It's too much of a risk.

I may allow third party flash widgets in the future from other services as long as they don't autoplay.

I don't really want to host music to avoid legal issues (the videos on this site are mainly hosted by youtube so that's not a problem) or excessive moderation work.
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Apr 1 1:41 -
Well, the main idea behind music that I think would be an advantage would be that you could have a playlist of maybe five songs. The user could pick these, even if they're just samples, and you could click on the album, or artist, so it could be more of a way to show what the person is listening to at the moment.

I've thought a lot about this and I like the facebook style of simple profiles but it's also pretty boring at the same time, I personally like customizing things. I have been thinking about adding a feature where you can browse peoples profiles using an uncustomized look, I would also like to add better box/module styles and maybe some default themes.

i like the idea of having some "clean user browse" mode!

More user settings are always nice. Right now the only options have to do with e-mail notifications.

Listal profiles are pretty clean on the positive side. It's the bad apples that tap into its mess potential. A MySpace profile can even be horizontal if someone needs it to be. I used to have a MySpace friend whose ultimate goal in the construction of her profile was killing the viewer's ears and making sure their fingers were in shape through means of multi-directional scrolling. At one point I even altered my computer settings to leave out backgrounds and animations when possible. It didn't help that my labtop has no external volume control, making it impossible to change volume except by clicking the volume changer at the bottom right. This is rutty aggravating when animations are loading and a sound's blaring. All I can do is cover the speakers and hope the computer speeds up. A Clean User Browse mode would be ever so considerate.
