No, he was waiting for Prelude to reply. Not anyone with unhelpful input!
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 13 21:32 -
Vincent, this is not an instant messaging program. I was addressing him, for the next time he signed on. You see that is how message boards work. ;)

I'm thinking I might have known what it was, but I am just curious as to if I am correct.

basically, it appeared ANYONE could have gone and delete another person's custom list. reviews too maybe? fixed now :)

I think Tom was testing it as a mod feature but I got word from friend that it worked on his account too.
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 13 22:55 -
I suspected that it had something to do with mod powers for all.

Voxy, took advantage how? *raises eyebrow*

-LOL- Yeah... I deleted about a dozen reviews that consisted of "huh" and "ugh" and "track 12" :P Anything else I'm generally cool with so it's not my place to touch.

Although admittedly, I now feel silly for not saying anything. I wonder what it says about me that it never even crossed my mind to do so.

It would be nice for mods to delete reviews as Voxy mentioned (and she's up there on my recommendation as a new Mod, as I'm sure many of you would agree) -- but I was worried about people deleting my lists, complete with notes and all. that would be have been deadly. *shudder*

I'm afraid this bug's not over and done with yet.

I went to edit my 'Favorite games' list and found it without a status (private, semi-private, public) or title. I had to add 'Favorite games' and 'semi-private' again just to get out of the window, and then I noticed it was a regular list worth 50 points (rather than a favorites lists worth 100). I went to add another game to the list, expecting it to go to a new 'Favorite games' list. It went to the same old list, and 50 points is still the number..

I don't mind the point difference too much, but there's a lack of differentiation between Favorites and whatevers.

@prelude: i wonder if there are backups for the data on listal. just in case. servers tend to crash ;).

What caused the bug anyhow?
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 17 21:56 -
Would exporting your data back this up?

And I think it's trying out new moderator options.

I've had that for awhile now...

You can't really export on here can you? Not unless you count rss feeds. I think an export/back up option would be a good idea just incase something like that happens again.

What do you mean get out of the window?
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 18 0:05 -
www.listal.com/export

At least xml files. You could export, and then if something went wrong, you could reupload. But I don't know if it does lists.

I could've 'X'ed out if I'd wanted. In order to make an edit on the list, though, I had to put something in place of that blank title. Do you understand how this might've come as an after-effect of the bug?

Something like this has happened to my favorite movie list two times. The list loses the status (private, semi-private, public) although it keeps the title. Last time it happened was around two months ago, when custom lists started appearing on item pages. The list became just another custom list. When I added new favorite items, they got added to the list, but I didn't appear amongst "favorited by". So to avoid the shame of having a favorite list appear amongst custom lists on item pages, I just renamed the list, made it private (i think), then made another favorite list, and when finished copying the info, deleted the old one.

So if you make it private or rename it, do the items get added to a new favorite list?

sure, but it doesn't contain your lists, which is what prelude was afraid of losing. also it doen't include your review, comments, friends etc. aka the export feature is not a substitute for backup ;).
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 19 4:04 -
True, true. I was just taking a guess.

To backup everything would be a massive ordeal. I don't know if Tom wants to try to tackle that.
