who like avatar

It's one of my 2009 Faves.

It is over rated and messy if you look deep into everything that is brought up.

Dude. What's with the spam?

Avatar had amazing visuals. There was obviously a lot of imagination that went into it. However, the acting was not that good. The script was very cliche ("we're not in Kansas anymore." really? no *@$#!!!) The story was also pretty predictable. I would still put it in my top ten of the year. However it would probably be 9 or 10. Like I said, it will go down as one of the great visual achievements in cinema history.

Visuals dont make it a top 10 calibre film, I can name 10 films this year that had better acting and story, with good visuals that I would watch 10 times before I would see Avatar again. I see why people love it so much, but all the hype is a bit absurd for a film that doesnt have one stand out performance.

Yes, but rarely do great acting and story collide. Take An Education for example. INCREDIBLE ACTING, but the story was nothing special. How about District 9? I would say the acting wasn't as solid as people thought it was, and really the visual, while impressive, the story in the first half went from AWESOME and ORIGINAL, to another gore fest sci-fi movie. I mean yes there are better films but most movies have their flaws. Think of it this way. Birth of a Nation probably is one of the worst movies story wise and it is just downright racist. Yet, we hail it as a great cinematic achievement. Why? It did something new and spectacular. It changed the industry. Like Avatar or not, it is changing the industry for better or for worse. Regardless of story or acting, a film with that power deserves some respect.

Avatar doesnt change anything. Motion Capture has been done before, not original, 3-D has been done before, not original, the story has been done before in Dances with Wolves and Pocahontas. Again there are films that rip others and become succesful, Avatar is not an orginal films no matter how you look at it. I can name a bunch of films with solid stories and solid acting. Inglourious Basterds comes to mind, Juno being another, (500) Days of Summer. Acting and story can come hand in hand, I just wish more films took advantage of that.

I thought it was pretty good, but a bit overrated. The special effects are great. They realy transport you to Pandora, and yuo can see the actors' expressions in the Navi. However, the story is nothing special, and a bit trite. I am a bit surprised it got nominated for Best Picture. I think it's pretty good, but not Best Picture material.

I enjoyed it. The fact that it manipulates the shit out of the audience just shows you how genius James Cameron is or...well, how stupid audiences are. But I was one of them, so what can I say. Is it a masterpiece? Not really.

Spending $223,000,000 on advertising will get you an audience. The film was pathetic.

top movie

typical stupid hollywood movie with bright colors.

pocahontas remake but still exceptional!

It's an exceptional piece of film-making, not necessarily storytelling.
But it will more than likely prove to be an important piece of cinema history when we look back in years to come, due to it's impact on 3D technology becoming widespread in the media.
