What's with the inflood of creepy users?

halfshadows 18 years, 1 month ago at Apr 11 18:41 -
I love Listal. I use it every day. Lately, however, I've noticed that a lot of new people are joining and trying to use it to try hook up /stalk (wtf?). I thought this site was about books, music, movies, games, etc. Almost at least once a day now, I'm getting sleazy A/S/L messages from new users (which I ignore, obviously). But it's getting a little annoying. I was just wondering if this is happening to other people? I really hope this site doesn't go MySpace on me.

Also, is there anyway to block specific people from sending you messages?

I know the feeling. I raised the topic in my thread about quantity vs. quality and it just seems to be getting worse. The social side of the site is just being abused by people who don't even have any collections. I've recieved random friend requests and a couple of PMs, but otherwise all the guff I've come across has been the groups.

And no, there isn't a way to block users, but hopefully Tom will implement it soon as it's been discussed a couple of times. ;)

hey, halfshadows. wanna cyber? ya so seksi!!

lol please add a TON of sarcasm to the above sentence. i too am intrigued why people think this is adultfriendfinder or some other dating site. i mean, are there that many horny AND retarded people out there? 'LIST THE STUFF YOU LOVE' with primary buttons such as MOVIES, TV, DVDs, BOOKS? seriously, how can people get confused by that. Or does everyone else have a special 'Search for hot singles in your area' button that somehow eludes me?

halfshadows, one tip would be to change your icon in the meantime. your icon strongly suggests that you are FEMALE and that is all some males need to pursue things to the next level. maybe choose an image like a black 'n' red monkey sock puppet (seriously, tartan, what the heck is that? lol).

I've said this before, but it bears repeating:

This is the net where "men are men, women are men, and children are cops."

For all you know I'm female or male or a ghost in the machine. Any profile info I've entered (the very litttle that I have entered) is pretty meaningless.

Anything you know about me, you've picked up from my posts and my collections. Surmise away.

Don't post your life story on a web page. Knowledge is power (forgive the platitude).

It's a homemade sock monkey named Harold! Maybe the reason I don't get assailed with annoying messages all the time is because I use a picture of a male one. :P

Going with a tv or movie image will do the trick as well. I'm left quite alone and avoid responding to threads with "hello? im new add mee yayayaay" ... :P

Most of the new people come from friends invites, I will try and get blocking functions in soon.

I do find using a guy's name helps online, I don't get too many creepy PMs that way. I have noticed a lot of new chatty threads in the group section that are a tad silly and wondered aren't there enough hook up sites already? I've also felt very glad I'm married and not trying to date these days.

After getting hassled on a blogging community (and I mean hassled by serious perverts) I started to put in my about me section that I\'m not interested in anything, just friends. Now though I\'m engaged so I just put that in there and I don\'t get hassled as much... A lot of it does depend on what impression you give ie picture or phrasing of certain words. I remember someone on flixster (I get around on different communities, such an addict lol) complaining about all the unwanted attention she was getting and yet her profile avatar was of her bum... Makes you wonder why she was getting hassled!

Common sense does help but unfortunalely I\'ve found that fruitloops are around no matter what site you\'re on. This is the internet after all. It seems to attract loonies and desperadoes

Ok, avatar changed.

Meanwhile, multiple messages from 4love a day starting with "HELLO HONEY!HOW ARE U TODAY" makes me wonder if he's a spambot.
