What's the first Heavy Metal song and/or Album?

I'm thinking of making a list. What are your two-cents?
First Heavy Metal album: Vincebus Eruptum by Blue Cheer
First Heavy Metal song: In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly
Mind you, these two preceded Black Sabbath by 2 years!

Then again the Wild Thing album from the Troggs was pretty heavy.1966.

Hard rock came up with the Yardbirds in '63 and that grew into metal around '65 with bands like Blue Cheer.

How could I forget Wild Thing? Good suggestion there...

No problem, there was actually a lot of heavy metal bands in the 60's that people don't talk about like Group 1850,Captain Beyond,Grand Funk Railroad. Then of course you have Vanilla Fudge,Alice Cooper,Mountain, and Elf with Ronnie James Dio.Also,if you listen to a lot of electric blues from the 50's,like Hound Dog Taylor, that sounds a lot like the heavy metal of it's day.

I've heard of Hound Dog Taylor but I don't think I've heard any of their music. Which would you recommend?
What are your thoughts on my above-mentioned album and song?

Iron Butterfly and Blue Cheer are awesome metal bands and I agree that they played a big part in early metal.I would recommend Elf,they were metal in the Led Zeppelin style even though they were around before Zeppelin.

Most of the members of Elf went to Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, a band that's one of my favourites. Man on the Silver Mountain is just about their best!
