Whats amazing to you, and what does it take

Okay we all heard the word amazing, sometimes waaaay to many times. But what has to happen for you to say "that movie is amazing" or "that performance is amazing" Now a lot of people on TV always say or "he's amazing" all the time even when the performance is just good. For me it takes a lot to use that word. I mean I used it this year with JGL in 50/50, probably the best male lead since I saw Dicaprio in Revolutionary Road, where he was amazing. So yeah I dont use it much, I dont like too. The way people r talking I might use with Rooney Mara

I've called 3 movies amazing. Inception, Godfather 1,2 frankly because they are perfect.

So what does it take for u to say thats amazing, or maybe you havent said it

This is because people enjoy going to extremes. They enjoy exaggerating. The reason why they enjoy doing this is that they find it boring to admit that a movie or a performance was "just okay." It's a lot more fun to come out of something and say that it was either "AMAZING!" or "AWFUL!". By saying either of those two things, you know you're more likely to get a reaction out of people, but any reaction in between just feels too "meh" to most people. The problem this causes is that a lot of people come out of movies saying stuff like "OMG, that movie was amazing!" and then if you ask them about the movie two months later, they won't remember it that well, or they'll be like "Yeah, that was pretty good", because the intensity or the pressure to say it was great will have worn off by then.

My criteria for saying that something is amazing is when I know what I just saw is something that I WILL remember, not just in two months, but in two years as well. I'm a firm believer in the fact that most movies fall right in the middle as far as quality is concerned, and that people either overrate them or underrate them because it's more fun that way. As a result of this, it doesn't surprise me when a lot of people find my middling reactions to be boring... but they're honest reactions. I refuse to say that a movie or a performance is great unless I truly believe it, and I refuse to let myself be influenced by any pressure from people who've already seen it or even from the pressure of what critics or the Oscars or the majority of audience members are saying. I form my own opinions and am honest about them, rather than using them to please people. The GOOD part about this is, though, that whenever I do say that something is fantastic or great, people can truly believe that it really is something I was wowed by, rather than something I'll just forget about later.

And with that said, I'll tell you that my opinion of Rooney Mara's performance is that it was very good, but it doesn't quite enter the realm of masterfulness. It's nicely raw and fiery, but it's not earth-shattering work on the level of, say, what Charlize Theron did in Monster. But my advice is that you form your own opinion about it and that you don't let "The way people are talking" influence it.
