What the Fraggle...?

tartan_skirt 18 years ago at Apr 22 18:59 -
Most fans of 80's children's shows will know what Fraggle Rock is. For me, it is a childhood favourite which I have only just had the luck to rediscover through the wonderful power of YouTube. I love the show and the theme tune is fantastic, but today I came across something which I do not know how to feel about..

Fraggle Rock: The Movie, set for release in 2009. In a way I don't really want it to happen. Let's face it, The Magic Roundabout adaption didn't exactly preserve the charm and innocent, accidental, drug references of the original. Why is everybody set on modernising my childhood, damnit?! At least the original voice actors are still alive... so I can at least hope that they're going to fill the roles.

*calms down* Anyone else have a view on this? Did anyone else love the Fraggles?

I seriously dont know nothing about this programme..but i can tell you one thing for sure..that these characters are damn cutee! LOL

Presuming it's the proper fraggles and the writing's similar, should be alright :)

Fraggle Rock, the show, is (and has been) available on DVD...so you might be able to rent it and experience it without having to turn to YouTube!

As for a movie...lame. It also annoys me that everything from my childhood is being brought back, revamped, redone, made "better". Leave it alone!

I loved the Fraggles but will probably avoid the movie if I can, but having a son that will want to go see it may change things.

yeah...I have a child who might be into that too. Who knows....I mean, I tried to make it clear that I didn't want her to see Barney - that stupid idiotic purple dinosaur, but apparently her grandparents let her watch his show every weekend, and I just found out about that!

Any specific episode or serial recomendations..because i really am looking forward to have a gaze at it..

Sarosh - If you are just wanting to look at what the show is like, any available episode is good to watch. One of my favourite individual episodes so far has probably been "Doomsday Soup" though. *giggles at title*

Jessica - Barney is scary! How any child could watch it and not cry or have their brain melted is past me...

I'm going to see what happens with the film, since there are 2 years left until it is supposed to be ready. It wouldn't be so bad if it were another Muppets movie with a Fraggle cameo appearance again, but thats because they have evolved along with the times and already live in the "real world". Introducing the fraggles to human life will probably just be wrong!

All right..i'll try to see for any available episode. Any site or link i can get it from?
tartan_skirt 18 years ago at Apr 24 18:36 -
YouTube has a few available at the moment. I've noticed "A Dark and Story Night" and "Wembley and the Gorgs" lately.

EDIT: Oh! And they have the first episode too! Which is probably a better starting place. :P It's called "The Beginning".
Sarosh© 18 years ago at Apr 24 19:39 -
True..the first one would be the best begining..Ever wonder how they produced such kind of serials?
Any ideas?
Jessica 18 years ago at Apr 25 16:49 -
well, the Fraggles are puppets...and they probably made the show the same way they would make any other show that doesn't involve live actors or animation?
Sarosh© 18 years ago at Apr 25 16:59 -
All the creations of different kind of shows have changed, but a research say that puppet shows are produced the same way they were in past centuries..because the only thing matters in these shows are a pair of strings with the puppets themselves..! There production are so interesting..
But nowadays, if u switch on the television, you get to see alot of news shows and stuff which contains live actors in the puppets themselve..but i don't know bout the animation..half the media is pretty much running on animation..believe me..i study audio engineering..all our stuff is supossed to be on live studios, but some way or the other we are linked to animation..:)
Animation is so much in nowadays..

Remember this is the 1980's that we're talking about. Fraggle Rock was created in a way probably very similar to Sesame Street as they were released from the same production company. It looks mostly puppetry, hand-held and strings at times, with a couple of people in suits as Gorgs. ;)
Sarosh© 18 years ago at Apr 25 17:26 -
so true..what was the puppets name in sesame street who used to be in the garbage can all the time..he was in green i guess?
tartan_skirt 18 years ago at Apr 25 17:38 -
Oscar the Grouch! Ahhh... so sad, but I love those old shows. :P
Sarosh© 18 years ago at Apr 25 20:38 -
yea.. for some reason i found that charachter pretty amazing.. the way he came out and got back in his garbage can was such a thrill..I used to wonder what was he doing in there..lol :D Alot of people told me he sleeps there..dunt knw if that is right :)
tartan_skirt 18 years ago at Apr 25 22:08 -
Yeh, thats where he lives. I found a Muppet Wiki, so you can read about Oscar here: muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Oscar_the_grouch
