Welcome to the new Listal

Ok - so I wake up and go to Listal. Still bedding in obviously. First of all I disagree with the purist gauntlet response. Some may post garbage to get points. I don't and most others don't. That comment was merely insulting.

On the positive side I think the pictures that are showing are stunningly clear. On the negative the servers aren't showing them.

I don't think I have the problems with lists that others do because I don't do anything fancy. But then I haven't done anything to my lists since the change because of the image problem.

I want to remain a fan of Listal and I hope this can all be sorted and I am sure the transition is a torrid time. But if I might add one another comment in reply to Gauntlet. If so many of these comments are coming from people who use the site a lot their comments should be listened to and not tetchily dismissed. otherwise a lot of people will go - and the people who comment will be people who care - many others will jus pack their bags and go.

Of course if the intention is for this to be a site for a relatively small group of purists that is another thing entirely.

Ok so I have now uploaded images and I must say that it is faster than before. However I think mods may have made a bit more work for themselves. before when I uploaded to a named actors galleries I was quite content to back through the pages to check that I wasn't duplicating images. Now that is going to be too much hassle given that there are more pages to go through now that there are fewer images per page.

Sorry if I now duplicate images. I am content to look through all when there are a couple of hundred but not more than that.

Just I hope helpful comment for the designers and mods. Incidentally I am now warming to it.

Moderators, is there a new "bugs" discussion page/thread? I have a lot of items to list, but I don't think this is the place to do it.

I'm sorry you're getting so much negative feedback and vitriol. I can understand both sides of the argument here. I've launched websites before and certainly understand the many potential issues with such a complex (and FREE) site. So here's my perspective and feedback on the site redesign.

When I visit Listal, I look forward to potentially learning new things about people and places. I enjoy browsing through a well though out, attractively designed list of interesting people, events, music, movies, places, and the fascinating different perspectives of others looking at the same thing. It's this exchange of ideas that intrigues me most. So when I put together lists of my own, I try to invoke some of that idea exchange. Anyone viewing my profile and/or lists should have no doubt that I love red hair, even though mine is black. So I try to design a list that reflects just how I view redheads, and others. Referencing my Listal Profile & three of my lists, ( Alina, My Alina, Pretty Reds, & Beauty Of The Stairs, here is some hopefully constructive feedback regarding some items that may have upset some users:
-The addition of some editing elements such as the "bold, italics, link..." buttons in the "add/edit comments" sections surely makes those list enhancements easier for some who may not understand html coding. And I applaud the additions. However, at the same time, the ability to add comments using simple html as before has been removed. Editing the side-bar content using html is still unaffected. Therefore, it's very frustrating to know that it's possible with the redesign, but not implemented. Trying to do the same things with the limited tools you've given us is impossible. (or maybe I just haven't yet figured out how to manipulate pages with your new tools...)
-Just a little while ago, I tried to insert a new image in the middle of a comment block using the "insert image" button, but it only inserts the image at the top of the comment block. I could not drag it to the desired location (or any other location for that matter).
-I tried to post some basic html code using the old [code][/code] tags, but no joy.
-In many of my lists, I use the

tags as seen in the Beauty Of The Stairs list. For me, typing the code as I type/edit the text is almost second nature. But to use the h2 tag in the redesign, I had to type the text, highlight the text, press the bold button, edit the text, click on source, then add in the h2 tag, then save that just to get the same effect! That sort of thing is driving some of your most loyal Listal members away right now. I can't imagine creating Alina, My Alina using such convoluted tools and methods.
-When editing a note, clicking on the Format Block tool opens a drop-down menu that doesn't disappear until you Save/Cancel the edit.
-When editing a longer note, you must constantly scroll to the tools bar at the top of the note, then back to your edit point, because the tool bar does not float.

These are just some initial thoughts and comments. Did not want to write a book here (although I seem to have already started one!). More feedback to follow. Bottom line: a lot of frustration could be appeased by allowing the use of the same html coding as before, in addition to the great improvements you made to the site! It's definitely NOT all doom & Gloom!

How the heck can you add images to your list like you were able to do before? A "Help" and/or FAQ link would help out tremendously. Thank you.

You people have ruined a great web site; you won't address my questions, you don't have a "help" or a "faq" link so many of our concerns are addressed. Have you ever hear of the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?" Apparently you haven't.

I really like what you did with the searching, it has becoming very user-friendly. I only have one list that I will have to change around a lot. I hate that we can't re-size and image anymore, because some of the pictures are too big to scroll trough, when there are over 200 pictures in a list.

I thank you Tom for making so much effort to please so many people.
