Welcome, Listal-ers! This thread is where new Listal members may introduce themselves and older ones can welcome them to the site.

For the newer members (and you older members may chime in if you like!):

How did you find out about Listal?
And what made you decide to join?
What do you like most about Listal so far?

The purpose of this site is to connect people of all kinds through common interests in various forms of media (the main five are Movies, TV Shows, Music, Books, and Games). Here you may rate and review things, create lists, proudly display your collections, and so much more! If you have any questions feel free to post your question on the

Listal Feedback Forum

Or ask any one of the moderators for the site.

Also, for new members to get a feel of what the site's all about, Nonfictionguy (yep, one of the mods) did a lovely list called simply Listal Help. I know a great big site like Listal can be overwhelming at first, but this list should give you the gist of what can be done on here. ;)

How did you find out about Listal?
I think I found Listal through an internet search after getting tired of using "List of Bests" which I found to be too confusing to use as many of the time you would find yourself logged into some whole other new part of their site and have no idea how to simply get back to the list you were creating.

And what made you decide to join?
The biggest draw for me was being able to create lists and keep them semi-public or private. I do tend to be introverted and sometimes don't feel like having the whole community chime in on some silly project that I have been working on.

Also, how easy it is to share any list I create on any other social network. Most of my long term friends and people who have spent years talking about movies online have all migrated to Facebook. Listal makes it very easy to share list on Facebook and keep in-touch with my past movie watching groups.

What do you like most about Listal so far?

The Listal Members! I love discovering films that I would never have thought about watching before and many of the list of movie posters are priceless. I love to see how other countries advertize films.

Sometimes it takes a time to make connections to other Listal members but there have been some really nice moments of people being very supportive of lists that I have made and offering invaluable recommendations or insights.

I also like that fact that I have been on Listal for a pretty long time now and still find things I didn't know about. There is a lot to explore.

How did you find out about Listal?
Actually I was only browsing and kind of looking for a site to express my thoughts. I thought of a blog but then I discovered Listal and I immeadiately fell in love with it because listing stuff is something I had always done on the side somehow because it's just so much fun. So I was very delighted that I stumbled across this lovely site.

And what made you decide to join?
The first appealing factor was the interaction with other Listal members from all all over the world. Not only because of the lists but also via the forum. I've been in no other "network" which had so much cultural variety that I actually felt kind of in touch with/integrated in. Listal got the greatest community ;)

What do you like most about Listal so far?
That it is so addicting. It never gets boring and there are always new incitements. (Sometimes it's even too addicting but maybe that's just me haha.)

How did you find out about Listal?
I was looking for a picture, and I found it in this site... that happens several more times so I decide to check the site out.

And what made you decide to join?
At first I thought it would be fun making lists of the stuff I like. I love cinema, I keep note of the movies I watched since I was a child, since my father gave me my first VCR. So this would be an opportunity to be surrounded by the movies, and people who also love it.
I was member of other sites in Spanish, but this could be for me another opportunity to improve my English.

What do you like most about Listal so far?
I have so much fun making lists, thinking about a theme, or looking the perfect picture. I like to see how many different opinions and taste could be in the same place...

How did you find out about Listal?
I'd been on Goodreads & was wanting a similar site for music and/or movies. I liked the way Goodreads let me keep track of my book collection, what I was reading, and what I wanted to read, but books aren't my only interest. I mentioned this to one of my close friends & within a week she sent me a link to join Listal. I've been here ever since.

And what made you decide to join?
Listal gave me what I was looking for, as mentioned above. At the time I was excited just to be able to rate everything I owned. It took me about a year to figure out the list side, and then I really got into the site.

What do you like most about Listal so far?
I'll echo jaytoast's answer & say the community, for the same reasons he listed. I too love finding out about movies, music, etc. that I haven't heard of or wasn't sure about checking out. I've now got several good friends who often lead me to great things. :)

How did you find out about Listal?
Netflix scrapped all their Friends and Family functions, list and review features, etc. So I google searched a place where I could create fun lists. And ever since that fateful day listal has been consuming large chunks of my free-time.

And what made you decide to join?
Once I stumbled upon the site, signing up was a no-brainer. But the reason I didn't quickly lose interest and disappear like I've done with other sites has everything to do with ^^the members above me^^ :)

What do you like most about Listal so far?
I love the room for creativity and diversity that the site offers and that a good many members around here make such impressive use of. Seems there's always something very insightful, clever, interesting, creative, or otherwise brilliant nearby.

Personally, I'm most excited these days by the way listal gives me a place to document my thoughts and feelings about movies as I watch them. As well as compare notes with other listal members whose tastes/personalities I've gotten to know pretty well.

The fact that I've developed rather significant friendships with a handful of members around here- friendships that extend beyond simple movie chatter- is a really cool bonus that I wouldn't have guessed.

How did you find out about Listal?
Since I'm a movie fan, I have been on IMDB for years (something like 8 years maybe) and once I came accross a book called '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die'. I googled this book and one of the highest entry was the list from listal.

And what made you decide to join?
I wanted to keep track of the movies I watched from the list '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die'. Later on, I discovered the whole ranks and points system. I thought it could be fun to see how many points I could score by ratings my movies/books/music and then I started to make some lists and I was amazed by how simple it was. The rest is history...

What do you like most about Listal so far?
I always had a obsessive/compulsive attitude towards my movie watching but I noticed that most of my friends and familly members always find it rather weird and/or uninteresting. So, I was doing my thing on my own, keeping my crazy thoughts for myself. But one day, some guy called jaytoast gave some nice comment about one of my lists (and kept on commenting on a daily basis...) and 2 years later I have more than 130 (!) followers from the whole world appreciating my obsessive/compulsive stuff, encouraging me to watch even more movies and share my thoughts with them. It's just great to find some kindred spirit with who you can share your thoughts about some weird movies that nobody cares about. Furthermore, I do believe that Listal is one of the most creative place on Earth (I'm deadly serious), there is so much possibility, it is just endless and I'll be around for a very long time. I should cut back though...

..and Kami-chan is right, it is terribly addictive!

How did you find out about Listal?

I spent a whole Summer moving my yearly favorite movie lists from Yahoo to Netflix and then without even a by your leave, Netflix obliterated them.
I went on their blog to complain and that is when somebody suggested Listal - I checked it out and liked what I saw, so I thought it would be a good place to rebuild my lists - as it turned out Listal was a much better place for list building than Netfix.

And what made you decide to join?

I liked how easy it was to make lists and once I figured out all the bells and whistles, like adding images to my lists, I really became addicted - and then the lists evolved into keeping a movie log which I have enjoyed, I spend almost all my free time watching movies, so Listal is the perfect place for me to keep track of what movies I am watching, what I have watched and what I need to watch in the future.

What do you like most about Listal so far?

As everyone above has said - The Listal community - I really didn't expect that when I first came here, I just wanted a place to store my lists - I was surprised when people started voting and commenting on them - but getting to know people from all over the world that have the same love for movies that I do has been a nice added bonus and a lot of fun - and it has been a great way to discover movies that without the suggestions and lists of Listal members, I might never have watched otherwise.

How did you find out about Listal?

I was tipped off about it on another forum.

And what made you decide to join?

Initially I just wanted a place to list my collections, but I soon became irreversibly involved in the creative process of making lists and sharing my interests with the community.

What do you like most about Listal so far?

I like the features the site has in place which help you be as creative as possible with your lists. I love the community - international and friendly, I feel I'm both broadened and comfortable here. I love how Tom is so receptive to your suggestions; on other sites suggestions don't seem to have as much of an impact. Finally, I just love the inter-connectedness of it all: no matter where you are on Listal there's a link to something relating, and through this process you're bound to receive a lot of recommendations, make a lot of friends, and spend a lot of time. Ha!

How did you find out about Listal?
I found it on accident when doing a search for photos to use for reference material. It seemed like there were a few times when listal was providing the pictures for whatever image it was that I was looking for. That got me curious.

And what made you decide to join?
There was some kind of content that I couldn't see because I wasn't a member. I decided it wasn't a big deal to try it out, since I used the site from time to time to look up images and movies.

What do you like most about Listal so far?
I've enjoyed more than one thing about Listal since becoming a member. I enjoy the process of conceptualizing and compiling lists and adding them to the site. I also appreciate being able to fill in missing items, images or information that could be helpful for users looking up movies, music or people. And lastly, I have really enjoyed the positive feedback from users, and the generally positive online environment that Listal provides. It makes visiting the site a rewarding experience, and it feels good to be able to vote for and compliment other member's contributions.
