Wallstreet Riots

Everything about it is kinda foggy to me. I know the main reason people are protesting now is because of Police brutality due to the 2 girls who got maced for no reason (and of course the man who did it is a high ranking officer who will more than likely not get punished at all.). Now I hear there are protests going on in Baltimore as well as other states, and I'm not exactly sure why there were protests in the first place, anyone know why this started or why it's spreading? What do you think will happen in the near future with these protests? How do you feel in general about the protests?

If they are like the UK riots the key word I'd use is 'generated'. The police stood back and allowed it to happen. Honestly you can see images of windows being smashed and police just watching - they were instructed not to get involved. I put it down to the need to generate interest in policing before too much got cut out of their budget in these hard times.

I'm not saying the riots didn't happen, but there was a political diamension to the actions or rather lack of action taken by a lot of those in power.

I'm surprised however that its happening in the US after the UK, usually its the other way around.

If the Police for the US protests have been ordered not to get involved (not sure if they have or haven't yet) it's because the entire reason these protests blew up is due to the 2 girls getting maced in the face BY POLICE for no reason what so ever.

If you haven't seen it already it's quite ridiculous. You can plainly see that these girls did absolutely nothing but stand there but yet they are being hassled by police.

Police brutality is a serious situation. I feel a loss for words to know that the 'high ranking' officer who did this unnecessary deed is more than likely not going to even be suspended for what he did because he's been on the force for long enough to have full protection for 'mistakes' that he makes. It was an obvious abuse of power.

There are a few around Colorado, too. Personally, I don't understand what the goals of the protests are. But if it's to get corporations to play fair, I think protesting in a park is about the least effective thing you could do. Well, next to getting maced in the face. To be honest, though, I haven't been keeping up with the news on it. Sort of seems like the media isn't giving it much attention.

I read a really great article on it by Rolling Stone's fine economic/political reporter Matt Taibbi. His stand is that the protests are uplifting but need to do a few things in order to affect real change. He's been holding these crooks accountable for years with his articles, so I hope the protestors listen to what he has to say.

My ex roomate was caught on camera resisting arrest and getting tazed for it. It's all over the internet which is weird to me because i use to live with this guy... later that day he had a seizure and was refused medical treatment for a few hours until they had to treat him.
