"unvote" or negative Vote

Hello,
I would like to have more power over the votes. maybe we should be allowed to vote against a image so it would have one less point, so I cold help demote images I consider ugly. What do you think ?

Some would argue negative votes
1. are a waste of time; simply not voting is equivalent to a negative vote.
2. could be seen as criticizing other members and discourage further contributions. If you had constructive criticism, you could leave a comment instead.
3. could be used maliciously just to lower the rank of all of another member's items.
4. would work against members using the 'Report' button; they might just use the negative vote instead.
but negative votes would be helpful
1. when used in addition to comments. It would often be good to leave an explanation of a negative vote, but the negative vote might spur members to read comments they otherwise wouldn't.
2. in sorting. Currently there's sorting by the number of positive votes. That leaves a large pool of items that could be sorted by negative votes (with the items with the most negative votes going to the bottom of the list)
3. to distinguish items that you're neutral on from those you dislike.
4. for your own personal reference as a way of marking items read/viewed (like email)
5. as data listal could use in the future if a recommendations system is implemented.
