He's not the stig. That particular week he was their guest as part of an agreement with ferrari that only he or one of their men could drive the super car they had on the show that day too. They even said the very next episode that it was an impostor and not the stig, it was all just a joke to get people talking about it. Seems it worked too!

Also if a stig gets his identity revealed he gets the sack, its part of the contract. So even if Schumacher had been the stig the identity would now have changed and we would be clueless again, there have been about 3 stigs since the show began, the first one revealed himself as an ex stig in one of his books.

I read that Michael Schumacher came as the stig for one week only to drive that new ยฃ1,000,000 Ferrari as they wouldn't let anyone else drive it.

Ah... still haven't watched the 2nd episode yet. Just noticed you said the same thing before my post, I guess I wasn't reading through this thread very carefully!

The identity of The Stig is a very well kept secret, but for a time The Stig was Perry McCarthy. In 2002, he released his autobiography entitled Flat Out, Flat Broke, in which he spoke candidly about his time in Formula One and his work for the BBC's Top Gear motoring show as The Stig (which RB6K points out earlier). McCarthy was the original, black-suited Stig of the first two series, who was "killed off" at the start of the 3rd series for revealing his identity.

In the 2nd episode, didn't they say 'Michael Schumacher was an imposter, he's not the stig. Or is he?'
They're toying with audience. They're not flat-out denying nor confirming he's the Stig.

And according to the Times Online:
The real identity of The Stig is widely believed to be Ben Collins, a stunt driver who acted as a double for Daniel Craig in the driving scenes in Quantum of Solace, the most recent Bond film. He lives in Bristol.

Turned out The Stig was Ben Collins.
