WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO PULL A FINGER OUT AND TURN THIS FORUM INTO SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T JUST MAKE ME WANT TO DESTROY HUMANITY?!

Sorry dude, but it has to be said!! Listals group section is a complete joke! You need proper mods and a proper set up here, every time I come on now to check a few of my lists etc the site just seems to be a corpse. There must be people using this, but only horrible children seem to post anything. How hard would it be to just delete groups and hook up a regular PhP forum or something? It'd take about half an hour to work out if that, and you'd have better control surely as you can password areas and see who is using it etc, easier to ban members too I think?

Hope you do something mate as its been a long time coming.

I will redesigning the forum section after releasing the new item page.

What specific features need to be implemented here? Just installing forum software will not solve all problems (and it will cause a few due to registration issues/styling issues etc..)

I am also thinking of experimenting with different discussion formats, one where you only see the posts of people you follow, something like the existing update feed.

A lot of spammers are getting through, even without profile pictures. I think it's time to set a minimum points total before anyone can post in the forum, that would stop some of the people using this place as a myspace surrogate as well.

People have to use the site before they stumble across a problem, so I don't think it would restrict people asking for help if the points total was, say 1000. You could have a 'Help' link in that grey box at the foot of the page that takes you to a private message screen with you in the target.

Total agreement with GA, a minimum points total would be a fantastic way to help deal with some of these issues. I also think it might be a good idea to have a minimum collection requirement to post. Nothing crazy, but maybe somewhere between 20-50 items overall, if only to cut down on people who don't list anything but constantly post crap in here. Might also help with the spammers, since many of them don't list much of anything either.

Personally it would annoy me if I joined a site and had to do a lot of different things just to post on the forum.

Pure spam (people coming on to just advertise things) really isn't much of a problem there is maybe 1 thread a day at most.

But it annoys people more that Listals forum is so poor, Tom. The reason it is poor is because people are just using it to spam, talk rubbish and irritate legit members. Most people have said they think a minimum limit before posting would prevent this and it would. It would also cut down on multiple accounts being made by people to get around bans or to post etc. Listal has started to go down hill a lot to be honest.

It would annoy me if I joined a forum and had to do lots of things before I could post, but it wouldn't annoy me if I joined a listing site and was required to list items before I could start using a feature I cared much less about... This is madness!

I could try it as a trial basis, I will do a rework of the forums after the item page is finished, any other suggestions apart from these 3?

- Have the main page link to sub forums like traditional forum software.
- Add more moderators
- Implement minimum point count

Having it show who is viewing the forums would be a nice addition to prevent people asking "anybody there?!" and it lets people know that even though the last post was say 15 hours ago, if you post now people are there ready to reply if its interesting. No idea how hard that would be to implement though to be honest, it would just be a nice feature.

I'd like to see some kind of FAQ and rules for forum behaviour. I don't think it's too draconian to tell people to stop posting in all caps, or starting crap threads like "anybody there?!"

While I remember, I'd love for the emails you get when you receive a vote or a comment to tell me what the comment says and what they voted/commented for. Its so much easier than having to log in every time.
The Cineast 15 years, 1 month ago at Mar 10 19:32 -
Well RB6K, is it really so hard to log in?

In regards to the subject: I feel a minimum points requirement would be great, as long as they don't spam to get them, and it's legitimate.

It is unneccesarily long winded to have to log in and then find the post/comment/vote to see what it was about. If it said "as voted for your list titled..." or gave me the comment, I would be able to see if it was worth me responding to without having to sign into listal and find it.
The Cineast 15 years, 1 month ago at Mar 13 18:50 -
Doesn't seem like much of a big deal RB6K. Nobody else seems to think so either....
insektmute 15 years, 1 month ago at Mar 13 21:12 -
I agree with RB6K. It's not a matter of being difficult to login, but wasting time logging in only to find it's another "thanks for the vote!" comment when you could have just read it quickly while checking your email.
The Cineast 15 years, 1 month ago at Mar 19 18:11 -
It sounds like a simple matter of Laziness to me folks.....

It's not laziness, it's inconvenience. It's almost as retarded as getting a picture SMS, only to find your network provider has instead send you a link that you have to access online to see the image, instead of just sending the picture itself to your phone. Everyone hates that. It's a good idea to elaborate the email considering it costs nothing.

Just like it would be nice to know what someone has voted/commented on on your feed without having to click on it. Just a mouse-over image would be nice. If you mouse over the comment/vote blue text now you see the link in the corner but unless you've got every listal item number memorised, it means nothing!

I find it weird that anyone would be so hellbent on arguing against it.

I have plans to overhaul the 'My updates' to be more like the main update feed (i.e. you can see the thing being voted for)

I will also change the email

The Cineast 15 years, 1 month ago at Mar 20 5:03 -
Well, I find it pretty weird that anybody would actually put all this effort into babbling about such an insignificant feature "insektmute", but then again, some of us have problems with logging on to websites, lol!

Sorry Tom. In regards to you changing it: if you personally think it will make the site better, then go for it. I just personally have no desire.

And YES, it IS LAZINESS.

No need to be embarrassed MovieMan. But the more you go on, the more humiliating the climb down!
