The Walking Dead

So within the first two minutes a girl with a stuffed animal gets her brains splayed, talk about an intro. fuck yes.
discuss.
discuss.

epidode 2, these characters are shit.

The Climax in the films seem to never stop coming, there's always one thing after the other, it's good to have a show that is dedicated to the zombie fans.
But one of the characters in the film looks familiar, I can't remember, it's going to kill me trying to think.
Is their anything else about the film that the other viewers can share? is there anything that they can change in the film?

are you talking about the redneck? pretty sure he was in Slither and i don't recognize anyone else. looks like your boys in a bit of trouble.

yup, that's the duke I was talking about.

Has anyone read the comic before the show came out?

yeah, i've read much of it and i guess it's actually still being written. i wasn't wild about it, nothing spectacular..but plenty of zombie survivalism, which i happen to enjoy. the story and characters were low average i'd say.
also heard they've already been given the green light for season 2 of this show.
they'd better come back strong week 3..the second episode was fairly rotten.

@Uber Yes, I have read some of the comics. A friend insisted I read it & I managed to read the first 3 trades that he had. Then I kinda fell out of it, but in anticipation of the series I've been reading them again. I'm somewhere in the 30s & am really enjoying it. I think it's well-written & the artwork is excellent.
As for the show, I'm enjoying it so far. I like that the first episode stuck pretty close to the way the comic began, but I've read that it won't stay completely faithful to the comic so I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with it. The show is definitely keeping the spirit of the comics so far, and as long as it continues to do so I'll keep watching. I can only comment on the 2 episodes that have aired so far, but it seems like they're focusing strongly on the characters, which tells me they intend for this show to go a long way. Should be interesting...

There was a mini series "Dead Set" that I really enjoyed so I was really looking forward to "The Walking Dead". On episode three and it is OK. I'm a zombie post-apocalyptic fan so I will watch it for a little while longer.
That said it is pretty cliche. The main protagonist, Rick Grimes, is the hard/but sensitive white knight who pretty much makes every lame white knight choice that you could possible make. The only thing that makes his two dimensional character endurable is that you know that he will 'do the right thing'. Still, I hope someone else comes along to shoulder the burden of being the sole moral center.
As for the rest of the cast, there isn't one character that shows any indication that their behavior or 'personal story' is going to be interesting or original. Most of the characters just feel like they had been randomly generated by a computer program to fit VERY set personal dynamics.
Also, interesting that practically no one seems to be having any kind of post traumatic stress or any other type of personality shift. Then again the show is still new so... who knows but I doubt that we will see it in the future. Not that I want "Dawson's Creek" of the zombie world but really... no one is a little extra twitchy after a zombie outbreak?
Still, it manages to be a step above recent Romano films with his 'in a world of zombies people still care about a 20 dollar bill' garbage.

i really want to see Dead Set. is BBC every going to release it?
regarding The Walking Dead, sorry to say, but based off what i read Rick Grimes is their leader and remains such. i agree the characters aren't interesting and that was a gripe of mine with the comic. there is plenty zombie action and survivalist problem solving on the horizon.
i though Shane's story got a bit interesting, getting caught in a bald faced lie so he could fuck his friends wife. heh, that is class. then beating that redneck into the ground. good stuff. i wish it took place anywhere other than the american south though. hate that place.

Looks like Dead Set got a UK dvd release then a All-Region release. It also had a limited run on "Independent Film Channel" which was good for people with cable TV but bad for people who want it on dvd. Amazon is selling it but at this point I'm rather doubtful of the rental opportunity. Which kind of sucks considering that every "I made a zombie film with my cam-corder' independent film seems to be avablibe for rental LOL
Oh, the stuff you sit through when your a zombie fan ;)
Back to "Walking Dead"... yep... Shane is interesting and I hope they don't play him up as the bad guy. Need someone who is attentive to the needs of the present and not the future.

I think this show is bordering between being really great or being really cheesy. So far I like the show, I really enjoyed the first two episodes and Episode three was a bit watered down with possible future story lines. Shane is not a bad guy, and I think they will end up taking this character the wrong way. I mean he could only really do so much, and if he had to leave Rick behind eventually people will need to see this. I like that he is taking action in the group and with Rick back around I want to see them impose a new set of laws instead of becoming enemies.

having read the comic i'm going to bite my tongue for a bit here.
except, fuck laws. that would be awful and boring.

one thing i hate is the sentimentality of these characters. my imagined post apocalyptic world doesn't include LAWS or RULERS. i'd personally throw out about every human tradition i can think of, we'd have to discuss the burying of the dead, (stupid tradition). they try and drag these failed American institutions with them through the end of the world.
i think the idea of pressing the reset button on the contemporary customs of human society is one of the aspects that appeals strongly to a lot of people.
these characters have terrible problem solving skills. they couldn't get a perimeter set up and after being nearly overwhelmed in the woods one of the first things discussed is the need for law. i hope they all die gruesome deaths.
