I want to see the movie. Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman. Seems like an awesome cast.

Kyaa! I LOVED those books. I kinda read them in the wrong order at first but it's one of the few books I was compelled to buy after reading them.

I'm really hoping this movie is kickass (although it probably won't be). There's just so many fantasy esque movies coming out lately that it's getting a bit tiresome but I'm actually a bit excited for this one.

Plus I'm really hoping it does well enough for a sequel. (As a very young child I had these weird fascinations about Will and his mutilated hand). But uh... Yeah. The cast they have assembled is quite lovely. Since the girl who plays Lyra is unknown I really hope she delivers.

Definitely looking forward to the movie. I loved the first book, the second was boring, and the third picked up near the end. ... Plus: Daniel Craig!

Is it true that it is a testament to atheism and the ultimate goal is to help the devil kill God?

It is true that the author is an atheist and the book has been pulled out of certain roman catholic school board libraries here in Ontario amidst controversy, but wether there is a hidden atheist message or if its just fear mongering spread by religious people simply because they don't like the author's atheist views, that i'm not sure of. I haven't seen the movie nor read the book yet.

You can probably sense the author is a bit atheist from reading but that doesn't detract from the fact that it's one of my favorite series ever.

and technically, helping the devil kill godisnt aetheism, its devil worship moreover, but, i dont think hes a devil worshipper so lets go with him being an atheist lol

I haven't read the books, it's a series isn't it? If I like the movie I'll probably end up reading the books. And yeah, the movie doesn't look half bad.. great cast.

The books have some pretty random things in it, if I remember, it's been a long time :D.

In Amber Spyglass, if I remember, they were going to get rid of God, who is apparently so old and decrepit that Metatron appears for him instead of himself, they free the souls from the afterlife, which is apparently all hell, no matter what you do, to dissolve into the world, etc.

So, it's right to have it pulled out of catholic schools and such since it is in effect against the religion.

Oh yes, I mean, halp halp iron on!

I remember the thing that directed me to the books in the first place was a recommended reading list I got from school. Did I mention that I went to a Catholic school at the time?
O teh irony.

I wonder if those what oppose this are aware of all of the RPG video games that involve a magic pagan version of the Catholic church where the Pope and God are the big baddies that must be destroyed with the aid of forbidden science such as Grandia 2 and Final Fantasy X.

They pretty much dislike almost all video games, by them I mean the people against the Golden Compass fervently. So, I bet that they don't know, but if they did, they would oppose them to.

Hell, I mean, even Twilight Princess got some points off for having the Great Fairy in it from them, as well as some pagan elements. I missed those, somehow.
Kamichi Gaara XD 16 years, 4 months ago at Dec 14 23:26 -
Neither, but I really want too.

Thanks for reminding me.

Read the books. The movie was cute, but very, very toned down from the first book of the trilogy.
