The debate over forums

I was reading www.listal.com/groups/viewthread/8922/ , and realised there is a battle over which forum is better then the other...
I think the aim of www.listal.com/groups/viewthread/8922/ was to get people to talk again and have a conversation about the lack of interest in forums...
So how did the sudden chaos happen?

You know, I remember those days of the anime and random chat. I left b/c Listal didn't seem like a very happy place at the time. Now it seems pretty cool and chill.

It is kind of disappointing to find that discussions usually turn into petty fighting...
Though, I do agree Grand, it never was meant for roleplaying, though I suppose it made it easier to discuss anime by BEING the anime... I never really understood the reason for RC though... General Discussion covered everything that TV, Books, Games and Listal Development didn't.

I am very disappointed that topics and chatting have not picked back up and why people are still arguing and fighting... but whatever hopefully it will pick up soon.

I dont understand why there is random fights...
I know I am relatively new to this site, but my impression is that this wasnt designed for people to have their aimless arguments...

If everyone agreed with each other all of the time, we might aswell all be wankers.

RB6K, here is about the easiest way to sum up why nobody is replying much

1) Summer Time, some people have jobs/work/vacation/something to do that consumes their time
2) Most of the younger users have left, causing the usual overflow of every topic to end,
3) A lot of the older users have gotten tired of threads turning to bickering and fighting and decided to try and wait it out (which is what I tried, 3 weeks and it's still going on with no sight of ending)

Though RB, it is a little much to expect that the moderators have the spare time to go through every thread and delete the junk out of it,
plus it would be incredibly strenuous to design a specific 'anti-junk' system that would automatically delete anything percieved as junk, and, it would also be confusing, "One man's trash is another one's treasure" now, one word posts will almost always be junk, but certain things that I might find to be junk isn't junk to other people

So Mods, when are the actual forum rules gonna be unveiled to the rest of the community? I know you have to OK them with T-dawg first but we're all dying to know whats a goin' on.

The new rule is no Unholy Alliances.

The point of this thread is to debate the situation of the groups section. If badgering about the Official Rules of Conduct has nothing to do with that, then we're not talking the same language Yama.

Look, people need to know their boundaries. The easiest way to do that is to set up some guidelines that are from the horses mouth. Yes, I'm calling Tom a horse but whatever.

Actually, technically he is somewhat right, I joined August 20th, and they were fighting way back then too, just not about the same thing, so he is half right I suppose

Most of the rules are common sense, in fact I am willing to bet they all are...

typically, if you feel like something doesn't need to be posted or it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't

I see you're getting impatient, how long have they been talking of new rules? and how long has Tom taken to make a decision to release these rules?

I'm pretty new to this site, but I've been pretty disappointed so far. I mean, this site has a great interface, but it seems like a lot of the more active members would rather talk about what is wrong with the site instead of, at least primarily, using it for its intended purpose. I mean, I'm not gonna pretend that I understand all of your problems; all I know is that in the meantime the site might be losing potential participants. I've tried to get some of my friends involved, but I'm not sure if they'll stick around if these "arguments" are settled soon. I guess what I'm saying is although new members might not understand the problems here, the fact that there ARE problems is pretty obvious. I wish there was something I could do, because it seems like the site has a lot of potential.

The fact that this whole fighting(not about the anime and RC but ALL of it) Has been going on since before I joined, I'm not really sure if the fighting will ever stop, both sides have VERY stubborn people who still persist to argue and bait

Is a "Let Live" policy not possible?
I mean, as long as someone is not flooding my thread with nonsense... ya know? seems like the problems might eventually take care of themselves

LOL, you can stop singing. Don't get me wrong. I really like the site and I do feel welcome. The site just has so much potential. I don't at all understand the site's problems, but I can feel the tension. I'll be sticking around though.

Mdk, it is better not to know the problems honestly, mainly because it really shouldn't still be affecting anyone, it should have stopped when RC and Anime stopped and all the annoying people simmered down and left

well then, if that's the case, we should get back to the business of discovering new music, books, & movies. my grocery money is burning a hole in my pocket.

I have enjoyed this site greatly, I have acquired new tastes for music, discovered so many movies I want to watch(But still haven't...) and I found various TV shows as well

Even if the Groups were to disappear I'd still use Listal for its primary purpose: listing stuff!

Aside from a lack of a price comparison feature (come on, Tom! implement this already, please!), this is the most comprehensive listing site I've come across.

The Groups, when they're not overrun by idiots, are just a bonus.
