Could sorting be done that ignores "The" and "A" as first words - many databases sort in this fashion.

I am with you TrekBody. It adds an unnecessary level of complexity to searching, for humans, for whom the system should be designed. Put a DVD in your computer and notice how every single one of them puts an opening "the" at the end. I'm pretty sure every book store ignores opening articles in their alphabetizing.
