Thank Yous

They go a long way! I always give thanks! Just sayin'!
I turned off my comments section to save on notifications for such things, and I very rarely give thanks. If we spent our time thanking everyone, we'd have less time for list making and voting. I think it's better to say thanks by giving a few votes back.
Just sayin'!

That's the problem in today's society! No one wants to take the time to say thanks! I do it all the time! It only takes 10 seconds! I do a lot of voting too!
We say thanks all the time in our day-to-day lives, we are taught manners as children. A question though, how many times do we actually mean it, and how many times are we simply going through the motions because it's the 'right thing to do'?
Actions speak louder than words anyway, and returning the gesture of voting is a lot more worthwhile than either typing the word 'thanks', or worse still... pasting a code for a semi-naked thank you image into a comment section.
Anyway, that's my view on the issue.
Edit: A quick example of the stupidity of saying thanks for the sake of it. My wife and I used to play on a game site, one that had a built-in award system. As a natural consequence of you playing the game, other people would randomly be given awards, and you would be thanked. You had no control whatsoever about who got the awards or when, they simply happened, but people felt like they had to say thanks. Why were people thanking each other? You played the game because you enjoyed the game, you weren't playing it to randomly gift somebody from the back of beyond 50 coins. The chat window was full of mindless muppets thanking each other for absolutely nothing at all. Worse still, some of the muppets who didn't know where to draw the line with doing the right thing would then reply with 'you're welcome'... welcome for what? Utterly mindless!!! Would we thank somebody for walking in a straight line which then indirectly meant that the person was never going to bump into you in the first place, on receiving that random thanks, would the person then be expected to acknowledge the thanks, where does it end?
Anyway, that is all connected to my little story about the game site, and does not directly relate to your opening post, since there is an action on Listal that is being thanked. I just deem it a waste of time anyway.
In short, I guess... A thanks is only worthwhile if it is sincerely offered, it's pretty pointless if it's said without thought and then ignored anyway.
Please note: you do not have to thank me for this post.

Thank you most sincerely, Jack. Knowing that no 'Thanks' are necessary makes me want to thank you even more, as well. I mean that from the bottom of this post. ;D
Please note: no thanks are either necessary or expected for the gift of my own thanks to you, my friend.

I thank people for their support because it's how I was raised. If someone posts "please don't thank me, " I respect their wishes. And some, like the Onion/Godiva team, turned off their messages. That's OK, too. We give each other enough support to last a lifetime. Unfortunately, some are just anti-social pr**ks who think they're special or somehow important and believe every message on their profile page is "SPAM." Whatever,...
