Team Moderation?

I think that ideally Moderators should work more as a *team* than as individuals with different points of view. That means that some controversial decisions should be taken by more than one moderator. But that would make things more complicated... so it might not be a good idea after all! :)

Y'know, as fun as it is for everyone to always tell us how we should do our jobs, it does occasionally get kind of old.

If working as a nice, lovely, productive team was an option, we'd be all over that shit. But it's not. We have very few mods who are active right now, and even fewer who actually participate in discussions with other mods. And as much as I'd love to find a way to force them to get more involved, it's really not an option. Then there's that little issue of us all having our own opinions and not being able to see eye to eye on some things. That's kind of how it goes when you have a bunch of random people thrown together. And I'd love to tell everyone to have only one opinion for everything. I would, like, more than life. But that's not realistic either, because sadly we live in a world where people have unique ideas. Craziness, I know.

If you have a controversial issue that needs attention, then perhaps you should be posting about that so that we all can see it. 'Cause I have no freakin' clue what it might be if you don't actually tell more than one moderator somehow.

Also, we try to be a team. We do discuss controversial decisions, it's just that usually we don't know they were controversial until after the fact. People get worked up about things we wouldn't expect. We have whole threads that are about cleaning up certain profiles or images we are conflicted about. You just can't see those threads because they are for mods only.

I say we deduct their salary. That'll teach 'em!

Thanks Maggie and tersanay for sharing light about the inner workings of Moderation. Like tearsanay said, moderation threads are for mods only, so we don't know nada about them. I am glad to hear you already do discuss controversial decisions.

@Maggie: no, I don't have any issues that need attention. By controversial I mean something on which some moderators think in a way, while other moderators think in a different way, so maybe a "team decision" is preferable to one person's decision. But then, I fully understand what you say. I said it myself: that would make things more complicated... so it might not be a good idea after all! .

@Xanadon't: deduct? don't be mean! ;)
