I have a few questions...
When rating a DVD, do you rate just the DVD (such as the special features, cover art, menus) or just the movie? A combination of both?
When clicking "Watched" or "Want to Watch" on TV shows, do you click "Watched" only if you've seen nearly every episode, or are you lenient, and click it if you've seen a single episode?
When rating something with a high rating, are you honest? Do you maybe give it a few extra points because the rating is high, and you don't want to bring it down? If the rating is low, and you loved it, are you generous with your stars?
I'm beginning to rethink my clicking habits is why I ask.

I haven't done too much of rating DVDs but when I do, I consider the extras on it and whether or not it's blu-ray and how well it looks on my tv.
I only select watched on tv shows if I feel like I can name the main characters and know the main storylines of the shows.
I try to be honest about my ratings. Most movies get a 6 or 7/10 with me for average.

Unless the quality of the picture/sound on the DVD is absolute crap I don't take it into consideration when rating, rather I rate the quality of the film itself. I don't take other people's ratings into consideration at all.

With DvD's I rate it for the movie or tv show not for the packaging or extras. Mainly because I don't watch any of the extras. Although I'm thinking of reviewing them after watching them all again with the extras...
T.V shows I click watched whether I've watched all episodes or just one because there are shows out there that I've watched one ep of and thought were drivel so refused to watch them again.
I'm always honest when it comes to ratings. I don't really care if someone hated something I loved or vice versa. I rate it for what it is. Sometimes my ratings change though when I rewatch something, but also has nothing to do with anyone, it's just how I feel towards the content has changed.

I rate DVD's mainly by the movie. Sometimes I take the extras into account but not that much.
TV shows I rate if I've seen a least a couple episodes so that I get a good feeling for where the show is heading.
And I rate honestly on how I feel for the item.

My ratings reflect how I feel about a movie in its particular category. So even though I may give Office Space a 10/10 and something like 'The Shining' 9/10, that doesn't mean I think they are of equal perfect caliber in terms of direction and cinematography and plot. Its just that Office Space is a perfect comedy, and as a comedy, its a 10/10. And Shining is a near perfect horror/thriller, and it that category, I give it a 9/10. But it doesnt mean that Office Space is better than The Shining. Apples and Oranges don't compare.
I know many others tend to knock down comedies, especially at Oscar night, as well as their general low ratings on IMDB, even if a comedy is so good you nearly wet your pants from laughing so much. And if any film, no matter how cheesy it looks or even if it has bad cinematography or non-existent plot, if it makes you laugh milk out my nose, it's achieving what it meant to do as a comedy, and to me, thats a perfect film.

When I rate a DVD, I usually jsut rate the movies... unless the special features are so excellent that they deserve extra merit.
I click "watched" if I've seen the majority of it, or only some of it an intend ot watch the rest in the near future.
I'm not sure that I actively take a look at the average rating... but I think subconsciously it does play a bit of a part. I always feel bad when movies I loved have low ratings or vice versa.

For DVDs I rate the movie and special features if they're really that special.
I usually click "Watched" for TV shows if I've seen around 5 episodes. Usually after this time I have an idea of how the show is going to progress and whether or not I'm going to continue watching it.
I give ratings on how much I enjoyed a movie and like Prelude76 I rate according to genre.
It's surprising to see the diversity of ratings - I've seen stuff that I love rated poorly by others.

I haven't rated any DVDs yet, but I'll try to rate it based on the DVD itself, that is the special features, cover art, menus, how well if fits on my screen and all that. The movie will be rated as a Watched Movie.
All that I have clicked "Watched" for TV Shows I've seen at least a whole season or watched in a regular basis.
When rating movies I try to rate it based on how much I enjoyed it and on how it made me feel while watching it. I hardly ever see it's average rating.
