Suggestion - University Dorm Trading

A while back, my university had a website which allowed students to post items such as movies or books and the location (dorm room) where these items could be borrowed. I would like to start this system up again and I could probably create a website to do such, but I feel this could be a great opportunity for listal. This could work well for any living community such as dorms and apartment complexes. I don't know enough about the inner workings of the website to suggest how to integrate something like this, but I'm sure you could think of something. Groups, as the currently stand, won't work very well.

How did the website work exactly?

The website was going to be really simple. A user would add their list of movies, their dorm address and the dorm phone number. If someone wanted to watch a particular movie, they would browse the list, call whoever have the movie and ask if they could borrow it. The website could only be accessed on the campus network so it would have been fairly secure.

For listal, I would be concerned with keeping things secure for the user. You could try creating a "special" groups where group members are able to access personal information (name, phone, location) from other members and only people with similar locations (those attending the same university or live in the same apartment complex) can join the group. This means you would need to expand the users profile a bit to include this information in the database and modify the website to only show this information to certain people with special privileges.

I believe this type of modification could really help listal get publicity in the college age crowd.
