Suggestion: Transfer and Get Help with Custom Lists

Ok, i feel like I took on a bit more than i can chew with my New & Upcoming Games for all platforms. Basically I want to concentrate on the main lists (PS3, Xbox360, Wii, PC) and not so much on handhelds and PS2, so i'm just ignoring those for now, thinking of deleting them.

But what would be good if we can implemented one or both of the following:

1) Allow a member to 'transfer' a custom list to another member. Basically, the new owner will have full access to edit/update the list, and won't have to rebuilt it from scratch.

- As i'm planning to not update the PS2 and PSP list of new games, it would be a shame to delete them, so if someone wants to take it over, it would be for Listal's benefit

- also, in the case where Thilian, who left us for a few weeks while he went on a train to Nepal to find himself, he could have transferred over his awesome castlevania list to someone else so it wouldnt get deleted along with all his notes

2) Allow a custom list to have multiple editors. At list owner's discretion, he can send invites to other members to give them access to add/update a list.

- this would list creators to maintain dynamic lists, like new games, IMDB Top250, and maybe other lists like Coming Soon to Theaters or Coming Soon to DVD

I am all for Suggestion 2. I can honestly see lists being more team-based that way. Relying on your fellow wo/man.

Maybe for the sake of the site, we could put teams on List assignments and they can work together on it over the year. These would be the Lists you mentioned that do need constant updating and changing.

I'd LOVE to see a cool 'Coming soon' Movies list, but I don't want to tackle that alone, especially with all my games lists I'm committed too.

and by ditching PS2 and PSP game lists, I can concentrate on adding trailers to my PS3 and Xbo360 lists as I started doing.

hm, i could imagine those lists to be like groups on magnolia (a social bookmark site). you have one creator who automatically gets the owner, and thus is able to set rights for his group. then everyone who has the appropriate rights can contribute web-links to this group. the owner of a group has the option to make a group editable only by the owner, by "moderators" which he sets or even public, where everyone can contribute without special rights to the group. also the groups are tagable so they can be categorized. you are able to find those agged groups in the search field. i think thats would be also a neat system of handling shareable custom lists on listal.

My Castlevania list is the only thing anyone here values about me. :(

Shared lists would be brilliant for more of a group project feel. A group of top members managing important lists isn't a bad idea either.

I have some ideas for this.

3) List feeds for users with shared lists to see what changes are being made to them and by whom.

4) Whether to eliminate a clutter of feeds or because their goals for the list weren't in line with others', users may exclude themselves from further list contribution.

5) In order for the list owner to "out" him/herself from his/her own list, first a successor must be assigned. One list master at a time controls who edits a list and who gets to keep editing a list - in other words, the list master can send list invites and kick out contributors for whatever reason.

6) On the right of a list's display, under the list's description:

List Master
Avatar & Username

List Contributor(s) (# of contributors)
Avatar(s) & Username(s), truncated if necessary

Past Contributor(s) (# of contributors)
Avatar(s) & Username(s), truncated if necessary

Sounds like an excellent idea, i would be very interested in contributing to a continuing effort such as this. It would involve a keen ability to scout new media announcements, not just the obvious ones etc. A group working on that would be immense, we could have not only "personal lists" but also Listal Lists which could form a main page of the site. Upcoming films, games dvds etc would be a very interesting page, as well as perhaps a list of current top 10's at the box office, heck if someone could be bothered we could have a "top 10 on this month 10 years ago" etc, iv seen things like that elsewhere. (Although if they are elsewhere, i guess we wouldnt need them.) Still, there are infinite things we could do on a main page regarding media forms, even if they are lists that whilst factual etc dont need updating often, just every time something new enters the ranking etc (eg top 10 most profitable films etc)

I'm more than willing to sign up as many contributors to my games lists, and we can have a common 'upcoming North American releases', 'upcoming UK releases', and perhaps also an 'upcoming Australian releases', as well as DVD releases for all regions.

Isn't it irritating that in this day and age they need bother with regional releases etc! It just encourages those incapable of waiting to steal it instead, i barely use my television now because i download everything i watch a year ahead of UK viewings (or at least a week in some cases since things have sped up)
Anyway, on topic, there should also be a way of doing cross genre lists!! This is something i've wanted for a while now im sure im not the only one.

I prefer suggestion #2 over #1 because having a group list makes it more of a community effort, especially on the bigger lists.

Cross Genre Lists! That would be so great to have.
