Suggestion: red color for profile and limit "recent reviews"

DefenderOfKnowledge 18 years ago at Apr 20 20:26 -
It would be nice, because it's my favorite color.....the one now is too pink. It still looks awesome, though!

Another small suggestion, when you are designing your profile page, could there maybe be a way to limit how many reviews are shown in the "Recent Reviews" section? Mine is quite long and extends down the page....rather a nuisance.....

If not, it's ok.

Both great ideas I reckon.

I was bummed when I first went to edit my layout and there wasn't any real red (pinkish red is fine but it does scare me).

And I was wondering about the recent reviews thing and how many are shown (I've only just started). I didn't realise how long it goes for...

I dunno.....they should have a cutoff number, rather than a cutoff date.

I know I'm bringing something old back.....I just want it to stay in people's minds....

It would be nice for the reviews to be limited to a specific number, maybe one we could set ourselves? Especially since some people write them longer than others.

I agree on the limited number of reviews. It's kind of a pain to scroll through people's profiles like that.

As much as I hate to bring up the past, I would really like to see these two suggestions come in to play, especially the latter. I would love to have a few of my recent reviews show up on my page, without having the scrollbar reduced to 10 nanometers.

Also, does it cut off comments on your profile, or do you have to manually delete them?

Why not just force the recent reviews box to be at the bottom of someone's columns? That way the only thing you'll ever be scrolling for is reviews.
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 13 23:21 -
So are you saying to put it at the bottom of my profile? Even so, it's very annoying and it makes it harder to scroll through the main part of the profile.

I'm not sure if we're commenting on the same thing here. Do you have reviews enabled on your profile? If so, I think they'd be ok if it wasn't for the huge messages section you have going on. Maybe making messages default one side and reviews default on the other would be a good idea?
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 14 3:04 -
I don't know if we are talking about the same thing....I didn't have recent reviews on my profile because it went down for so long. I don't understand what you are saying about the messages.

Here's my page:
hewhoeatspie.listal.com/
check out the blue at the bottom. It's just very annoying. I was thinking, maybe it could be like on the item, and it shows a paragraph or so, and then you click "Read More" to see the rest.

i second that. i was wondering about that too, because it makes quite messed up profile pages and a "read more" would make much more sense.

There could be similar dissatisfaction with the way comments automatically delete themselves with only a set number of recent ones apparent.

I don't think it'll be too too hard for Tom to just add some different colors.. Maybe patterns like water colors and camouflage will be more challenging!

I stand corrected on the 'just default reviews and comments to the bottom of the page' suggestion, your profile's a mess DOK! I could suggest swapping them so the more wordy reviews get a bit more space to breathe in the fatter column, but yeah, there's no harm in making them show up like they do on an item page.

How about we get the option to make the boxes whatever colour we want them with hexcodes, like the background?

Bael 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 12:42 -
yep, that would be fine, but rather hard to implement, because the background color for boxes is not a solid color but a gradient loaded as picture. sure, tom could change that to solid colors, but some of the web 2.0-look would get lost.
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 21:48 -
Well, still on the fatter column, it makes it extend about the same distance down, because I don't think I can put profile comments on the left.

And yes, I agree with the option to view more comments. Like displaying, say, 5, and then a link at the bottom saying "See more" and show the rest, rather than deleting like I said before.

Bael, he created all the other colors, right? I'm just saying, spend even 5-10 minutes a day and create some new colors. It wouldn't take that long. I'll even take a look at it with my non-photoshop GIMP and see how hard it would be.

Adding more colors is just about the easiest thing Tom could possibly do, codewise. The challenge comes from deciding on the best representations of different shades.

as i said before, the problem is not adding unlimited solid colors like for the background of the profile page, but to make an unlimited choice of gradients (which the boxes use). this will be impossible imho. tom could only add a few more gradients to choose from.
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 17 4:20 -
That's why I'm only asking for red. He wouldn't want to make an unlimited number. If anything, he could make it where the user can create his own gradient.

We just need one for each of the standard colors. Red, being my favorite.

I prefer having different shades of some. My light blue boxes provide a good compliment to my repeating tile background.
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 17 22:12 -
Very true, but I'm just saying that a good place to start would be one of each color. Then you could make "light red", "cherry red", "dark red", etc. But WE NEED ONE RED!
