Suggestion for Game platforms

Suggestion 1: I know I bitched about amazon.com and amazon.co.uk causing duplicates and Tom a few months back removed the .co.uk search, but i'm thinking it may have been a mistake. Sure, newer titles have less duplication, but the PAL or certain UK/EU only releases of new games is starting to be missed. maybe we should add that amazon.co.uk button back and deal with game duplicates differently.

p.s it seems like function is still there, just hidden:
www.listal.com/search/games/1/?query=everquest+online&source=us

change last word from 'us' to 'uk' for amazon.co.uk results, or even 'ca' for amazon.ca search results

Suggestion 2: Adding new game platforms, as the following don't have any 'Platform' page so we can't upload images, see most popular items, and see related videos for the consoles:

These should have their own platform page: (right now, it just says 'Could not find person matching this name' :)
- www.listal.com/platform/atari-jaguar
- www.listal.com/platform/atari-5200

Suggestion 3: fix up wording of certain platforms
- NEOGEO should be Neo-Geo, or more accurately Neo-Geo AES (add dash; AES was the home console version)
- N-Gage might be better as Nokia N-Gage
- PDA might be better as Palm PDA Sega Game Gear Commodore 64 Nintendo E-Reader

anyone have thought/comments/criticism about this post, please speak up.

cheers

What's PAL again? I happen to like the idea of a drop down menu for systems, not your cookies but an uncompromisable list of systems. But I'd like it if you could post more than one system for things like Super Gameboy. I was delighted to see my comma allowed for both Super Famicom and SNES and Gameboy. I probably should've included Gameboy Color, to be honest.

1) Books section should stay for strategy guides. Unless you'd like a magazines subsection somewhere?

2) Checklist-style item criteria. Say Pokemon Trading Cards: Slipher Pink Booster Pack is made under the system Trading Card Games (I think we have this one). You could enter these inserts into a checklist system:

1. -insert Bulbasaur here- Wanted Needed Gotten
2. -insert Charizard or that Gamera sucker. I forget which.- Wanted Needed Gotten

...and continue all the way to the end of the pack (Mewtwo, was it?). It'd help for comic books and individual titles of boxed sets (say you lose or sell one of the titles). Adding the whole item at once to Owned would make every trading card or Crazy Bone checked off, but Wanted or Played would allow for individual tracking of one's collection. Believe me, collectors are good people to have on your team when building up a site such as this. Plus, the word checklist has list as its last four letters.

About your suggestions, you could sort of do it this way right now:

- make a new platform called 'Pokeman Trading Cards'
- Manually add every card, with picture
- check off which ones you have and which ones you want

but i see what you're saying. almost like sub-list category for certain items.

Pretty much. I think we could add pictures to the item as a whole unless we can designate a specific number(s) on its list as the subject of an image. And you can do it even now in the way you say, but separating it from About Me would be nice as well as the fact that you don't have ink blotches that make you think you have Horsesea when you actually have Kahnastan.

i like where you're heading with this suggestion

maybe if we set up a 'Collections category' that's very flexible and fully editable by category creator, but shared for all to see (sort of like custom lists). i can see it applied to hockey cards, comic books, stamps, coins, even odd stuff like 'collection of cabbage patch dolls' or 'collection of bird sightings'. it would bring in a lot of great list-addicts and collectors to this site.

I like where you've landed with it. A fully editable 'Collections' category would be nice, but more in the vein of one person creates it and others can edit it unless a moderator has LOCKed editing the item. More like a kind of item on its own for everyone on the site, less like something one user creates and lets others look at. Private lists would be better for what you're saying, maybe a default To-Do list for those with harsh schedules? Hey, those four letters anywhere don't do wrong to the site's rep.

Tom, any word on those 3 suggestions from my first post? I know you're busy re-doing item pages for all items, but maybe even just allowing those new platforms in suggestion #2 would be nice to have now, since i think it would be an easy fix.

Tom's too busy seeing what comes of asking out every girl that's directly visible.

I've since reached the conclusion that this video Tom uploaded is someone else's.

No pressure, but this is still pretty important. My homemade Castlevania entries are suffering. Suggestion 2 is big as well - I'd want "Mobile" personally.

* * * * *

I may be going off on a limb, but I think this Collections item thing is one of the best suggestions Listal's ever had. If anyone here's never collected anything in their lives be it card packs, action figure series, clothing lines or porcelain sets, raise your hand and try to explain how you didn't begin that collection cell by cell while you were in the womb.

renaming some of the platforms would be nice to see, but i bet it involves renaming every individual item's database entry, so i'm sure its on the back burner for a reason.

I have a script to rename them, it's easy to change the names.

Suggestion 1 needs some of the global touch mentioned in this thread.

Suggestion 2 is done, dirt, cheap. I'd still like "Mobile" as a platform 'course.

Suggestion 3 sounds like it'll be easy enough and we'll get it out of the way in due time.

Do you think, Tom, that if you gradually get enough of these bugs and updates out of the way that on some future date Collections may be considered? Forum polls may be one of those necessary updates so we can have voting on what's most important to Listal users. I think there are so many different priorities from different kinds of members. I don't want things I opt for to be implemented before things that are important to a large amount of other users, but how can Listal's community tell what its members want without numerical statistics?
