Stephen King: favourite, most overrated and most underrated?

Anonymous 17 years, 9 months ago at Jul 19 13:14 -
Looks like I'll have to start, since I created the thread, so:

My favourite, is The Stand. The best post-apocalyptic book I've read, and a fabulous tale of Good versus Evil.

Most overrated: 'Salem's Lot. Didn't really feel all that original or interesting, to me.

The most underrated, I think, is The Tommyknockers. It isn't great, but not as bad as its reputation. For one thing, it showcases one of King's greatest strengths, characterisation.

I really like The Stand too, but I think Hearts in Atlantis is my favorite.

I thought the Tommyknockers was overrated. But I'm not sure how exactly it's 'rated,' so I could agree completely with how it's 'rated' in which case I'd have to pick a different book.

I think Bag of Bones is underrated.

For the most underrated, I wanted to pick one that is unfairly overlooked (such as, as you say, Bag of Bones, or Gerald's Game, or even The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon - for a book where relatively little happens, it's rather good!), but plumped for The Tommyknockers because it seems to have been rather maligned, over the years. I'm sure the awful TV adaptation will have played its part in that...

any word if Bag of Bones is being considered for a TV or movie adaptation?

It's been optioned (for those who don't know, that means a film company has bought the film rights), but, beyond that, no definite plans as of yet.
