I have been using Listal for a while now but just concentrating on the cataloging aspect & not really taken any notice of the social side of the site. Recently I have started exploring the forums & browsing the member list and from doing this there's things which don't add up about what I think the purpose of this site is & how it's actually been used by certains sections of the user base..
For me Listal is a social cataloging site centred on media collections and the site certainly fulfils this function very well. But then as I've been broswing the forum areas & having a look at the member ranking lists I see there's a glut of users who whilst highly ranked, have very little or no media listed at all. There especially seems to be a profusion of barely literate teenagers spamming the forums with reams of illegible textspeak who use the site as a sort of surrogate instant messaging service. Then there's again what appears to be lots of users with no media listed who are using the site as a dating agency.
To be frank, it's put me off using the site as I thought that once I'd got my media listed I could then engage in a bit of social activity centred on books, movies etc with like-minded folk but the social parts of the site are polluted with users who are seemingly ignoring the main function of the site, that of socialising media collections, and using it as some sort of all-purpose general chat & dating site.
Is this something that the owner & developer of the site is going to address?

17 years, 6 months ago at Nov 8 0:42 - Alright dude, about us being illegible... its called computer speech, anyone with common logic can at least have a general idea of what we are saying, also, teenagers arent souless like most adults, we actually like to have fun, so pardon us for making it interesting -.-(This is a face just so you know lol...), though i must admit... some things are a TAD bit annoying... also, we use this as an IM service because we like having a social life, its a healthy part of life, also... dating isa way to brush up on dating skills in real-life and build your self esteem up for something, also, if we were barely literate, we wouldnt be hear right now, im currently writing a few fan fics, i am also using this place for somethig once i get my scanner working... because i want people to observe my drawings and speculate the drawings and then give me feedback to help further my skills

17 years, 6 months ago at Nov 8 0:50 - The forum has always been fairly quiet and thats a problem down to general visitor levels to this site, I am going to promote the forums more soon through the item pages and 'people' pages.
A lot of the threads are moved into anime, random chat (these forums are deselected by default from the main page) or just deleted but I leave some of them since the forum is so quiet.
I've just started a thread for moderators, currently all moderation is done by me.
Also the future plan is to reintroduce user created groups where people are free to discuss what they want with the offfical groups will be more strictly moderated.

17 years, 6 months ago at Nov 8 1:27 - how do you rest your case? i just answered everything there and somehow that rests your case?? ugh... i dont get adults at all, i wish there was a way to stay young forever! i'll even check through to see if der are any spelling mistakes right now, dude, i can spell NEARLY any word there it, except foreign words, unless they are spanish

But it is the sign of the times - the age of MySpace and YouTube and every teen thinks the world hates them, and they will rebel against the system by mis-spelling things on purpose, and they all assume the world revolves around their opinions.
But you can't stop them. You can try to moderate them and herd them off into 'Random Chat' and 'Anime' sections of the forums, and then post intelligent discussions in Books, Movies, or Music sections, and hope someone intelligent replies. We do exist, so if you have a good topic, please start one, and you will see us join in.

17 years, 6 months ago at Nov 8 19:18 - Yama just admitted to using this place as an IM service. Surely all you need to do here is draw up some rules and lay down some warnings and bans to clean up this aspect of the site. It's really demoralising seeing the sort of chat that goes on, not only in the anime section, but the other sections too. I made the mistake of clicking the anime section the other day and found over 1000 posts of pure spam.
I enjoy contributing to this site but these morons are really dragging it into the gutter.

17 years, 6 months ago at Nov 8 20:05 - u know what... just for that... i think i'll prove u wrong on how "Stupid" u think most of us are, les see... if i can get the others to post more "intelligent" replies as u call them, replies, will u stfu? to a lot of people, intelligent replies on a computer site just mean ur a prep or something... so it might take a day or two... -.- u do realize... every person that visits this site, it lowers the cost of maintaining this site... anyways... if all the anime people left... u'd notice how much the price COULD (im not saying it would change a lot, but COULD) change

The forums are for DISCUSSING things, not really terrible role-play and emo babble. The more you people come in, the more people don't like to post here and the more people leave. I guess it works both ways, only the people leaving in this case actually have an IQ.

It's really called 1337 speak and it's not computer speak, it's a language that hackers/crackers used for a while until everyone else is the world started using it and then it became boring and annoying.
escafeld, I was just like you just wanted to use the site as a way of listing my collection of media and I really wasn't aware of the boards for awhile and when I did find out about them I didn't care to much.
But then Tom put in the points system and me being a sucker for any kind of points system I went looking for more and found that posting added more then just posting a collection and ratings.
But what I really found was a lot of great people that provided great discussion.
It has only been recently that the narutards have kinda killed the boards.
Hopefully moderators will help and hopefully you'll stay and join in.
