Sorting by Artist/Author

Any way this can be adjusted to sort by LAST name instead of first name?

Just found this topic after a long search. I spent all day today beginning to enter my media collection. I also uploaded quite a few CD cover images. I would have done more editing but I don't have the points yet. However this artist sorting issue is a real issue for me. Sorting a large media collection by first name is counter-intuitive especially since no library or any other cataloging system I have ever seen sorts by first name. And who sorts "The Beatles" by "T"?

I don't know how the database tables are set up but if there are not separate rows for first and last name why couldn't you simply add new first/last name rows. New entries could use the new system and old entries could be edited as users got around to doing so.

With this method users would still be able to sort by first name if desired. You could leave the old combined name row for legacy purposes and maybe just use the data in the old legacy row if the new first name and last name rows were empty. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to do but maybe I'm missing some technical detail about the database structure.

This issue is my only criticism of listal. Everything else seems well designed.

It's quite complicated to change this but if there is more interest I would consider it.

As I said it's a complicated change to make, I have to prioritize updates to things that will benefit the most number of people and are most requested. I have hundreds of changes listed on my todo list that I want to make to this site! (this is now one of them)

The current sort is based on the Author stored for each book which can be edited by anyone but it would be nice to have all those named merged together without editing each individual book.

How would bands like 'Red Hot Chili Peppers' be sorted?
