So sorry...

luuhs 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 14 23:46 -
So sorry for the mods (since I don't know who I can't talk to them directly) who had to go through all the pictures I'd posted listed as duplicates... Generally I'm good at checking whether or not others or even I have already posted those pictures before, so, they must have slipped through the cracks... "/ Still, I apologize for all the extra work and, hope this doesn't compromise my ability to post new pictures. =]
Maggie 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 14 23:55 -
Don't worry about it, Luuhs, it's happening to everyone. Tom put in an automatic system that's deleting some duplicates on its own (it has to be the same image, same size, same source, etc. before it deletes it, so not every duplicate will be caught this way). I've had a bunch deleted too that I didn't know about; it happens, especially for those of us who upload tons of pictures at once.

But yeah, the mods aren't out to get you with duplicate hunts right now. :P
luuhs 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 0:07 -
Hahaha... Thanks for letting me know! =] And, yeah, this seems like a nice way to go... I didn't even know I had posted so many pictures that are duplicates! O.O

I guess that especially when you start a profile, you can get a little bit careless with what you're posting, you know? xP

Just to clarify, (not to you Luuhs, just to the community in general) this system is not an end all solution to duplicate images. It is great for catching identical duplicates in the same resolution/from the same source. But everybody still needs to check before posting an image because the system will not automatically delete everything, even if an image appears to be identical.

We also still do not allow images that are extremely similar to each other. These will not be recognized by the system as duplicates, but that does not mean that they are allowed.

Likewise, if you post an image in better resolution that the one already posted, the system will not recognize it as a duplicate, so you still need to report those types of images as well :)
luuhs 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 0:23 -
Got it! I still think it's a great idea, it'll definitely help get rid of some, if not most things. But, yeah, it doesn't mean I'll stop checking it myself before posting things, because, I think I'm not the only one to think this, sometimes it's frustrating when we post something we think it's new and then it gets deleted as a duplicate, so, to spare me that frustration, I'll always prefer to take a look first, I think it just makes everyone's jobs a lot easier. =]
Maggie 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 0:45 -
I think it's glitching a bit, though. It's telling me it's deleting duplicates of my own images. XD As in image A was deleted because it was a duplicate of image A. xD Like same URL/ID numbers between images. But the image won't actually have been deleted; in that red bar at the top when you view the "deleted" image, it has the link to the original, so I can easily see that it's the exact same image and it wasn't actually deleted. Anyone else noticing this or is it just me?

EDIT: maybe not, actually. O.o The ID's have like a one number difference so at first glance I thought they were the same but they're not. Apparently I just have the habit of posting duplicates within the same batches of images... XD
VSAngels 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 0:52 -
Oh! That's what's happening! That's alright! Love you, Luuhs!:)
luuhs 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 0:53 -
Out of all the pictures that I've checked, most of them I was actually the one to post twice, but all of them have different entries on listal, so, like the number of one is www.listal.com/viewimage/4987372 and the other is www.listal.com/viewimage/4987340

So, I don't think I'm having the same problem as you, @Maggie, I mean, if that's what you're talking about...
Maggie 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 1:05 -
Yeah, like I said in my edit, I think I was wrong. XD the ID numbers were really close in the ones I was looking at, so at first glance I thought they were the same. But then I paid more careful attention and I think it was just me posting the same image twice by accident within minutes of each other and whatnot.
luuhs 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 1:09 -
@VSAngels Oh dear, you're a doll! =] Turns out, I wasn't the only one who didn't know about what was going on and I'm glad this topic has been able to help someone else! =]

@Maggie I know exactly what you mean... And, well, I also believe it might be because we post so many pictures at once and don't go ahead to check them out later to see if anything slipped through our skimming. =]
Maggie 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 1:15 -
Pretty much. Especially since I post a lot of similar looking catalog images and such, so it doesn't catch my eye if I posted something twice. Another thing is that I upload from the person's main page and don't go into their gallery until after, so I don't notice if something got posted twice all the time. Sometimes I catch it though; I know I get frustrated with stuff uploading slowly so I sometimes hit the button a second time and it uploads it twice. XD
luuhs 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 1:20 -
@Maggie My problem exactly! If it's not uploading my first instinct is to click the button at least once more. xP And, well, I also upload things from the person's main page, but I often keep a tab there, a tab in the images part so I can check out whether the image is already there or not, so, I often try to browse through all the pictures before posting something in a profile...
Maggie 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 1:26 -
I usually post and then check the rest of the gallery after, because then I can compare quality easily between the two pictures (I just do the first steps of reporting a duplicate so that it tells me the size and whatnot, I just don't finalize it unless mine is bigger). And usually I catch it if I made a lower quality repost and then I delete it. Apparently I miss it sometimes though.

A lot of the duplicates being deleted for me right now are from a few months ago, when I first started posting images and before I really knew the images rules. So that makes me feel better because I know I've gotten better since then. XD
luuhs 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 1:33 -
@Maggie My problem is generally with people who didn't have profiles around here, so, since there aren't any pictures in the gallery, I tend to post them all at once and I sometimes don't check it afterwards, there the duplicate images go! xP I'm glad I can say that I've learned a lot about the rules of posting pictures and such and I try to avoid posting anything that could get reported as much as possible. But, like I said, every once in a while, something will slip through the cracks...

I'm guessing the whole image deletion has ended by now, or, at least the notifications have been deleted and stopped...

Tom said that the notifications for duplicates deleted automatically have been turned off for now, but not for duplicates reported by a user.
luuhs 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 1:48 -
Oh, got it! =] Any idea how long the process is going to take?
I assume it'll just take a long time considering the amount of images that have been posted around here (not that that's ever a bad thing)...
johanlefourbe 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 15 6:07 -
I don't know if it is really a good idea to turn of the notifications. Thanks to those notifications, I was able to update a few lists which would have otherwise ended up without a pic.

Cool system though!

Agree with Johan. Notifications are needed to let users know what's going on and replace deleted images in lists. Unless the system automatically replaces them! :)

I realize that duplicates are a problem. I think it's great that there's a program now to, at least, partially deal w/ that, too.

What truly bothers me though is wading through endless pages of paparazzi-type pics just to see good pictures of someone. Honestly, who wants to see random pics of someone walking down a street (snapped within seconds of each other) or the same thing with someone at a premiere against a backdrop.

It's maddening and, most of the time, I end up skipping ahead like 9 or 10 pages to try and avoid them! The only reason I can think for someone doing this is to just get their points up and it's completely ludicrous. ;/
The Enterprise 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 24 3:02 -
Yes, thank you Fortunato for bringing the matter of paparazzi pictures up. I am absolutely sick to death of those stupid and useless photos. The sooner they are gone, the better. I know the user who is mainly to blame for it, but I won't name them here, because I don't think that I should, not that I have to say anyway, as I'm sure other users have noticed who is the lead culprit. I honestly want it to stop. If they were used in many lists or were helpful, then I'd have no problem with them, but as they aren't, they should not be accepted on this site. I believe that it's a big issue on this site.
FG93 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 25 22:23 -
Agree with Fortunato 100%, who the fuck wants to see 20 pictures of someone stepping out of a taxi?
luuhs 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 26 1:57 -
I find it a bit annoying to have 100 items of the same thing pretty much. As mentioned above, like stepping out of a taxi. What could maybe be done is like creating a separate gallery. For some model portfolios on agencies' websites what they do is create one directory for pictures, editorials, magazine spreads and such and another one for Polaroids, and I thing it could be the same around here. Have 1 gallery for people to post like real pictures and another in which they could post all the paparazzi pictures they want. Or, well, just say you can post like 10 pictures of a determined kind of thing and all the others can be erased or reported as sort of the same thing. I know you have a number of pictures you can post of a same event and such, but I don't really know how many...
The Enterprise 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 26 2:06 -
I just think they are being posted for one reason and that is to get useless points, I think it is unfair and should be looked at. There are some members on this site who post good pictures and one's which can be useful or rare etc. but you get some users who think it's ok to post endless identical images, which I'm sorry, but I think it's pretty silly.

For example:

www.listal.com/kelly-brook/pictures
www.listal.com/kim-kardashian/pictures
www.listal.com/emma-stone_iii/pictures
www.listal.com/amanda-seyfried/pictures

Thank goodness I don't post images for them people.
luuhs 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 26 4:16 -
I think if you go through the images fast enough they probably move! xP And, I know what you mean, I post models that are slightly unknown or that haven't been introduced to listal just yet, and, while people like that can have 100 pictures of a single thing, it's really hard to find pictures of the girls I post. I'm lucky when I can find like 40 or more...

I agree that paparazzi or red carpet images of celebrities in similar poses, taken within seconds of each other are a complete waste and ruin so many celeb galleries. Unfortunately there is not sort of automated system to recognize and delete those types of images. So those pictures have to be manually reported and deleted.

I think to really target this problem, though, there needs to be greater consequences for users who continually do this, despite warnings.
burnodo 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 26 22:02 -
Red carpet dupes can be annoying, but I find I like different poses even though they were shot within seconds of each other. What we don't need is 71 pictures of Drew Barrymore and her dog walking down the street.
The Enterprise 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 28 2:35 -
I agree, thanks a lot for the responses. But, I'm not sure whether it will stop at all, because, after all, they are posting picture of the people. So, I don't know. Could some of them be classed as duplicates?? It's just a shame because it can seriously clog up galleries, and yes, you end up passing over 10 pages of worthless and useless images.

Another example of a gallery that has just been clogged up...today: www.listal.com/scarlett-johansson/pictures

I just don't think they're pictures that are necessary in a gallery, and I'm glad to see other people agree with that too.

brazilfashion 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 28 10:50 -
Yes, images extremely similar to each other that clog up galleries are considered duplicates and if reported, we will delete them.

I am going to delete 3/5 of those ScarJo paparazzi pics that were posted today.
Maggie 11 years, 1 month ago at Mar 28 21:04 -
Unfortunately the notorious mass posters are people who don't pay a lick of attention while uploading. In that batch of ScarJo pictures, Thing 1 posted a few obviously cropped images, and then Thing 2 posted the uncropped versions. And no doubt Thing 2 didn't bother reporting the ones he'd replaced, because that would require having knowledge about a the person's gallery and recognizing there are duplicates, which he never bothers with. Not that it should have been hard to notice in this case since he posted right after Thing 1, but whatever.

And no doubt Thing 1 will be sending an angry and grammatically incorrect note to a mod, demanding to know why her pictures were deleted.

The problem is really that these people just don't care about the models and actors they're uploading to; they're uploading just for points, and don't care if they're posting low quality images or duplicates. So we end up getting loads of ridiculous event and candid photos and other ridiculous nonsense that doesn't benefit the gallery at all.
