So, I've just seen Drive

I've been trying to watch some of the big boys from 2011 before the Oscar ceremony and I stumbled upon the masterpiece that is Drive, one of the best movies of 2011 IMO. I'm surprised to see Drive only had 1 nomination for a technical category, then the academy nominates unfunny comedies and strange dramas and leaves things like Drive and 50/50 out. No more hope for these guys.

It's my personal option that Drive didn't get that much recognition because it is a film that reminds us of how good American films used to be. Of course this is done by some guy no one in the Academy has ever heard of and is from some strange country called Denmark.

I knew the director is just getting into Hollywood movie-making, but I had no idea he was from Denmark. But then again, there is great talent in the northern parts of Europe, and that is often overlooked by western audiences to more explosive, comedic and high-budgeted cinema.

50/50 had a chance at best actor, but screenplay...it should have easily been nominated

The important thing, Veed, is that you've seen Drive!

The Oscars continue to disappoint me with their narrowmindedness when it comes to more controversial films and performances. Ryan Gosling should have been given a nomination for Best Actor, and Drive for Best Film, but of course it wasn't.
The BAFTAs are much better and have recognised Drive in several main categories. Fingers crossed!
Glad you enjoyed it, it's a real stonker of a movie.

You're right, I'm glad I experienced such a movie. I wasn't even sure what I was going to watch, I had this idea it was the GTA of movies and I was pleasantly surprised. To some extend, Driver is somewhat a GTA of movies, there's a lot in this movie that was done right.

I just saw Drive, I thought it was awesome. It had style, suspense, action. And people said it was awkward, maybe they should watch Twilight.

I thought the film was great (not just because ryan gosling is awesome!!) but i kinda expected more racing-action and less blood...

Ryan Gosling has been evolving to be the DiCaprio of his generation. I first saw him in Notebook (I think), than I noticed his acting skills in My Blue Valentine last year and by the time I finished Drive, I was sold.
